And with that I summon the one and only Image ref king Dekdave for a mission to Sub Level 3. Anything there DD?
I'll take a look. In the meantime here's something to honor FML's Ultimate Badass Hudson.

"I'm on it!"

Dittos to all you dudes, Aliens freaks All!

MF, WOW! as if you're not busy enough, laying this image down was so cool of you bro! Actually, this image has some backstory (see JC CE DVD). This particular shot was done with a foam/stryro appliance painted and hung over the camera. It was the first shot presented to the "suits' at Fox and they were dumbfounded, so much so it caused concern over the budget, not knowing it was f/x shot piece. They thought it was a full set! :lol

Now, this is a beautiful image of the entrance to SL3. I know it is going to be tough to find a clean interior SL3 shot but there are some to work with (cropping may be necessary). That is sortof what I'm looking for, an interior with a curved wall on one side to display behing our guys. Maybe when they first entered, maybe a grate floor wide shot when they first entered or a side wall shot we can crop. Don't get me wrong, I love this iconic image, just wondering if there is maybe something I'm missing. :D

But, that's just me. Again, kudos and many thanks to the Image King MaulFan for this. I love it, just wondering, that's all bro, just wondering.

I'm not sure how this will all end up, but I was planning to work some of the red railings and other mechanical elements of the original SL3 structure into the image as well, most likely airbrushed in photoshop, I didn't come accross and usesful stills clicking through the DVD today, most of the shots featuring those elements were from a more elevated position or so filled with the marines that you'd be left with nothing to strip away, it'll come along. I'm also planning to have an alien or two coming out of the walls and maybe and chest burst colonist or two as well.

Thanks MF and Dek. This is going to be unbearably cool. Railings, mechanicals and Aliens in the walls, oh my!

I know we have little to work with, the Marines WERE everywhere...

We'll figure it out. We always do! :D

I wish I had some of the marines, I keep wanting to photograph them to try and emulate the lighting from the film to see how the figures look under the same conditions, oh well, maybe one day chance/fate will land me a good opportunity to score Hicks.

Here's a set shot of "Hadley's Hope" Corridor, No Aliens there! I'm sure there are some set piece shots we can dig up. I hope.

Well I have just returned from my expedition to Sublevel-3 and there isn't much to report. The Colonial Marines are in nearly every shot. The wide shot pjam is describing when they first enter the hive tilts down from the ceiling so I cropped it just before the marines come into frame. Besides that just a few POV shot around corners of tunnels. That's it. Looks like it will take a lot of compositing and cloning to make a desired background image. Are you reading this? Keep it tight people.

Thanks Dek, Short controlled bursts. There may be something in the CE special features disk but it'll probably be low quality footage (unmastered).

Well just to give you guys an idea of what I'll be working on, as DD's agreed with me, it's tough getting any single image that would really work out, so I'm figuring this will end up kinda a "best of" image that takes elements from various frames and combines into a final image nicely. It won't be a screen scene, but it should look like a plausible film scene when I'm done, a what could have been image. These are the screen grabs I'm working from, though the original files are much higher resolution.

That'll Work out Great MF!

When in need ask MF. "Yeah send MF, MF will go!" :lol

Seriously, it will give more of a claustrophobic environment which is what made Alien and Aliens work in the first place.

I'm sure you Alien buffs in here have already checked out the bonus disc info for Alien 3, but I just bought it last week and it's interesting to see everything that was going wrong with the making of that film. It has it's highlights, but it's not as good as 1 & 2, but I look at it differently now that I see what it took to make it happen, and I wonder what could have been if everything had gone smoothly.

I actually got to thinking today too. Alien 3 introduces the notion that the Alien race takes on the traits of the host in which it grows, and it got me wondering, could there be such thing as the Alien planet with a race of them, or are they more like a galactic plague that doesn't persay have a home and just spreads from host to host infecting everything.

I couldn't help but imagine this topic getting thrown into Aliens quotes.

pjam to MaulFan- "How long after we're declared overdue can we expect a hi-res background?"

MaulFan to pjam- "Seventeen days."

dekadentdave to MaulFan- "Seventeen days? Hey man, I don't wanna rain on your parade but we're not gonna last seventeen hours!"

Watching Alien right now and I just realized that Lucas stole the sound effects from the environment suits breathers and used them for Leia as Boush in Return of the Jedi. Don't know why I never noticed that before. I love watching movies again because you always find something new or look at something in not quite the same way.

Lucas didn't necessarily steal anything, it could just as easily be coincidence, or similar enough sounds but both uniquely recorded and mixed, or it could be a sound effect from an anyone can use library, like the Wilhelm scream heard in many movies. Not trying to be a GL lap dog or anything, just think it's a bit bold to assume ripoff.

But Lucas did rip lots of things off, thing is , is he was pretty honest about it all. Kinda paying homage to things he liked, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Ever noticed the lit reddish grating on the floor in the Nostromo, and the floors in the duel scene in Empire between Luke and Vader?
And the sound when Luke is walking carefully in there, just before Vader strikes? It's the Nostromo sound...almost a "woooo..." electronic breathing sound.
Must have been in Ben Burtt's sound files...or some stock 20th Century Fox sounds....

Hey all. Just wanted to chime in and thank Les for making this head truly come to life. I know photos of the head painted and unpainted were posted as well as the original Chronos promo pic, but what also has to be realized is that Les had to sculpt the entire neck onto the head. The head that I had was actually more akin to a BBi G3 head with little to no neck at all. So, above and beyond EVERYTHING else Les did, he had to face that deterrent as well. Kudos to you Les, but damn you for not living closer. :lol

And...............
I don't know if anyone's still loooking for a Hot Toys Hudson, but Good Stuff To Go has them for $85 [as well as Chopper and Elder Preds for $99].
Go get 'em if ya need 'em!!!
