I've always disliked the CM Big Chap for so many reasons, yet despite its flaws, the pose and presentation are excellent. Sideshow's piece is superior in propotion and detail accuracy, but my eye just wants to go to the CM version in this picture.

As someone that had the CM and has the SS version, the only things I liked more on the CM was the black coloring, chrome teeth, and the base w/Giger signature. I think the SS version is a lot more accurate in detail and proportions. Some ppl say the paint on the SS version is "flat", but I disagree, it has a lot of coloring in it, all though, it's very grimy looking, it works very well. I love this piece, just not sure if I'm going to get a replacement yet.

Sideshow Version of Big Chap looks more detailed way better than CM Big chap........:)

mine came with a broken ankle spike :radior:. Other then that, no complaints from me, will have to wait and see if I can get a good partial refund or go for a replacement. It would suck to return this piece for such a small break, but idk. Overall, I like it more then the CM Alien.

what do you guys think, would you take a $50 refund for the above damage or go for a replacement? I didn't see the piece in the box, so I figure it happened at the factory, but I'm a little worried I could get something worse.

I wouldn't accept anything broken.
I'd get a replacement. Plus this puppy wasnt cheap

Tomorrow is the big day for me. Should be able to pick it up in the morning! Cannot wait.

I have an internal conflict with myself....yes....no....yes.....no...it's damn annoying :lol

:exactly: :slap Same here. I just about order this thing every evening. It's just so expensive. That's the only thing holding me back.

Don't settle for less. Go for the replacement.

Hi Azurepred.

I got my Alien Big Chap today locally and it was perfect except for a big chip on the tail. One of the spines had gotten knocked off.

Of course, there was nothing in the box so we know this is yet another factory defect . . . despite the QC sticker.

I took home the statue (which I love, love, love by the way) but left the tail behind to be exchanged.

Just curious but can't you just exchange the tail? Or did I forget and your break is on the body?

His break is on the ankle/heel area, left foot I believe (ox lower jaw bone).

yea, mine is the spike on the ankle, which is a shame, cause the rest is flawless :gah:. I wish my damage was just the tail. I don't know yet if I have to send the whole thing back or not yet or if they will just have me destroy the main piece. I would have taken the refund if the broken piece was in the box, so your right, they are breaking things at the factory and still packing them .

correcto!

if you can afford it, it's defn worth it, you won't find many, if any other pieces at this size and detail for the price.

Okay Azurepred got it.

Yeah that sucks, it's a small defect but you have to return the whole thing.

I'm 100% sure they will have you return it. They can repair that invisibly and then resell it, no way they'll have you destroy it.

Some real quick thoughts on this piece:

Like you, I'm a big Stan Winston fan and tend to focus more on products that have his official stamp of approval or are from the original molds. Still, I have to say that the Alien Warrior and now this Big Chap maquette from the Gore Group is absolutely phenomenal. I can see both becoming very sought after in the secondary market in about 5 years or so.

I've seen the Alien Cinemaquette in person and up close and unreservedly prefer this statue.

The detail on this Big Chap is just SHARPER and there is just a lot more of it. I much prefer the dome on this one as well. Just the perfect amount of translucency vs fog.

I think the paint is a lot more varied with more depth and contrast.
The CM piece is just one monotone lump of black. You have to go REAL close to see the variations. The Sideshow paintjob really brings out the detail and the contrast in my opinion.

I also HATED the CM pose. Hated the piroette spinning pose. I know it has LOTS of detractors but I think this Nosferatu pose by Sideshow is absolutely perfect and COMPLETELY true to the spirit of the character. Alien is NOT a sci-fi thriller, it is basically a horror film in space. We all know the tricks Ridley Scott used to terrify us because the actual creature itself if ever seen in broad daylight would look simply ridiculous . . . an obvious man in a suit with a big long head.

My major problem with the Alien design has always been that there just didn't appear to be any pose that didn't make it look ridiculous. I hated the man in a suit look and when you take it out of the shadows of the movie and make a statue out of him, I just never could get on board with a pose that worked for me.

Well, this creepy Nosferatu/vampire pose with the hands comes about as close as is possible to satisfying me. It's still a man in a suit . . . but somehow doesn't make it look ridiculous.

I can DEFINITELY imagine the Alien doing this more than that violent, spinning dervish of kinetic energy that CM went for.

Overall, phenomenal piece by Sideshow. At 1250 pieces, this will be around for a little while but as good word of mouth spreads, it's going to disappear sooner than later and then I can see it fetching 1500 plus on Ebay very easily. It's that good.

I'll say it right now: best Big Chap statue every made. And yeah I'll put it over the CM and Sano versions.

This makes me somewhat okay with my poor choice of color on my Besta units, as I went for the dark wood, not knowing that it was going to effectively hide my collectibles. So it's fortunate that I'm an Alien collector, because the low lighting helps keep most of my pieces true to their source material.

But, at the same time, I do still gravitate to my 1/2 scale head only piece, because there is no "man in a suit" issue with that piece. And rightly so!
