Alita 2 Is Moving Forward, With Lessons Learned from Avatar: The Way of Water

Alita-Battle-Angel-Sequel.jpg

The upcoming sequel to Alita: Battle Angel will take cues from Avatar: The Way of Water.

Jon Landau, who produced both films alongside writer/director James Cameron, told ScreenRant how the lessons learned from The Way of Water will influence the next Alita movie. "I think what we've learned from Avatar is how much more facial nuance and subtlety that we can get into characters that we want to be emotional and emote that are humanoid," he explained. "Alita would not have been possible, but for what we did on Avatar. Avatar: Way of Water would not be what it is but what we did for Alita. And now let's put that back and give it back to Alita. We're talking to [director Robert Rodriguez] and talking to [lead actor Rosa Salazar] and all is good."

This is cool news to me! :yess:

That's it? That's what they learned from the new Avatar?

The focus on technology over story continues.

Ooooo that’s good news. I’m glad there is an audience for this movie and franchise. It’s so niche in both movie and anime communities. You have to be like deep into anime to really know about it.

According to you, what else should they "copy" from Avatar 2 to use in the Alita sequel?
It's not a matter of copying, it's about learning from its failings as well as its successes. In addition to showing off groundbreaking tech, Avatar 2 was also regarded as having a paper-thin story. I'd hope Team Cameron beefs up the plot of their next films.

Yeah, Avatar 2 was pretty weak except for the visuals. Loved the first Alita so this is one of my most anticipated sequels. Considering there's alot of good story material to use from the Manga they should have a fairly good chance of repeating the success.
