Re: ANIME???

I hope so. The wait for a region 1 release of Evangelion 1.0 was excruciatingly long, but I bet part of that was due to getting the English voice cast set.

Have you seen FMA: Brotherhood? It's quite good, imo. Supposedly it follows the manga much closer than the original series.

I was actually thinking about that when I posted. :lol I haven't seen it, but I heard similar things. It followed the anime more closely, etc. etc. (Honestly though, I never read the manga so I don't know what I'm missing.) I heard that Season 2 deviated from the manga quite a bit because production of the show was quicker than the manga itself. Not sure if I'm remembering correctly though...

I wondering though: Brotherhood is just the show retold correct? And if that's the case shouldn't the original Season 1 be really close to the Brotherhood Season 1? (Because I heard the source material of Season 1 was all manga, rather than manga/creative freedom by the artists/writers of the show etc. that occurred in Season 2.)

I haven't read the manga either, but Brotherhood is not a retelling of fma season 1. There are new characters, different plots/sub-plots, and some characters get killed off sooner/later. To me season 1 was a little dry in the early middle, but with brotherhood every episode ties well together and makes the story flow as opposed to one adventure to another adventure.

Oh, wow!!! :rock

I had no idea about that aspect of it. Now, I have to see it! I noticed it the other night on Adult Swim (at least I think it was Brotherhood,) but turned it because I don't like watching new stuff unless it's from Episode one, etc. etc. I need to check that out now.

Thanks for the info.

Re: ANIME???

I think I'm going to give FMA:B a watch when I finish with Death Note. I never watched the original, but I always hear good things about it.

Re: ANIME???

I just checked out Amazon.com and it looks like FMA: Brotherhood Part 1 comes out on May 25th on DVD and Blu-Ray. It's the first 26 episodes. Blu-Ray is only 4 dollars more....so my question:

Is anime on Blu-Ray a significant improvement (as compared to DVD formats)? I have other Blu-Rays of live action movies like the Dark Knight, Transformers, etc. and it's AMAZING!!!

Does anime on Blu-Ray still have that "WOW" factor?

I would assume it would only if it was in HD. For example Naruto has HD (720p) but I dont think Bleach is.

i completely agree with you there. i need to start watching anime from episode 1 otherwise i won't like the series. you will notice when you watch fma:brotherhood that it starts out similar, but as the story progresses you will def see the differences compared to the 1st season.

That would be the smart thing to do. :lol

Re: ANIME???

In case you guys don't know, the entire ongoing FMA: Brotherhood series is available to watch for free on Funimation's website for the show. Currently there are 52 episodes.

i just download the episodes and watch them when i have free time at home. i'm not a huge fan of streaming.

Re: ANIME???

Yeah, Brotherhood is good but it does depart from the original rather quickly as far as details go, but of course, the overall "story" and main characters stay about the same.

Re: ANIME???

I don't have time to watch anime anymore, but I still read a lot of manga, mainly because they're less time consuming.

Here's what I'm currently reading:

One Piece
Naruto
Bleach
Gantz
Beserk
Billy Bat
Vagabond
Vinland Saga
Blue

and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

What is Billy Bat about?

I didn't realize that at all. I'll definitely check it out! Thanks for the info. :rock

Re: ANIME???

This thread has been inactive for far too long...

Anyone watching anything new? I've recently picked up a lot of series I've been wanting to see... now to just find the time to watch them. I'm still watching anime on Adult Swim on Saturday nights, and can't wait for the new season of Bleach to start next month! And I've been enjoying Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood during it's run, but I like the original better... at least so far. We'll see how I feel after it's finished. Other than those two, Adult Swim is all re-runs lately, and it doesn't look like they will be getting much new this year. I think they said two new anime series (maybe 3) would be on this year, and FMA:B is one of them, so only 1 or 2 more to debut.

As for new stuff on DVD/Blu-Ray, I can't wait for Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 and the Gurren Lagann movies, to come out. The Lagann movies come out in July and I've already got them on pre-order, but no word yet on Haruhi season 2, although everyone thinks they will be released soon.

dont think any of these are new just some that I have watched recently.

baccano
durarara
darker than black
tegami bachi
cobra the animation

Although I think the animation are fine and some have pretty interesting stories but none of them are stand out series to the likes of bebop, GITS, or FMA.

Re: ANIME???

I just got done watching Ep. 1 of Brotherhood and loved it!! It looks like the next Ep. basically Ep. 1 is the original run. (As some have already said.)

I'm definitely going to pick this up. On Hulu, the Ep. is all in English subtitles, but according to Amazon.com, the DVD set has English dub. with the original voice cast. BUT, I don't know if Amazon.com website is wrong or if Hulu is only offering the Eng. subtitled version.

Re: ANIME???

The question marks in the title are bothering me, I'm gonna change the title to 'The Anime Thread' or 'The Anime Lovers Thread'. What do you guys think?
