I seriously doubt that if Sideshow put their Hellboy figures out today they'd be anywhere close to $40 or $65. They'd probably be about $100, and still have the same level of quality.
I don't see much reason why Sideshow can't achieve this level of quality either then or now. They need to stop trying to catch up and start setting the standard. Some of their recent items have gotten closer, but they still have a ways to go.

Look at their PF. They could do it if they wanted to. It would probably cost more, though.

In Sideshow defense, their Hellboy figures where good for the time and for the price. For $40 you were getting good figures.

Hot Toys will be better NO DOUBT, but they will also cost 3 times as much, and years later, when everything is looking better.

I was happy to get the Hellboy figures when they came out and I am still to have them in my collection.

I just picked up a loose exclsuive Hellboy for less than $20 and I have NO complaints.

Based on this I'd say yeah, the goggles are a bit too large.

They also have more "spikes" around the inner lens edge than the real ones (closeups I've seen only show 4 points around the edge, at least on the left lens)

The horns pretty much match where they are on the HBII makeup as far as I can tell.

I think in generally they're fairly inaccurate. HB's face sculpt is pretty off as is the torso sculpt. Thing is, I don't care. I think they actually look better as is. Especially HB's face sculpt. Looks more elfin and less monkey and also a hellva lot meaner. I'm really digging these a lot.

Question about the exclusive SSC 12 inch Hellboy - the one with the head that shows

Put him on an HT body, he looked horrible on the buck. And also changed his boots.

that looks pretty good on the HT body. Ive been trying to get one of those but ever time i find one Im short on cash. The Nazi Kroenen is good enough for now though

I also swapped mine on a HT body. I'm planning on re-doing all his gear in actual leather as well as swapping the HT body for one of the new S2 bodies (has better shoulders and a slimmer stature).
