I hear ya.

I believe we’ve talked about this before, but I’m a huge Nick Fury fan, so I feel your pain. Total missed opportunity by making him Sam Jackson with an eyepatch. Hell, I’ll take Hasselhoff ANY day over that nonsense. Imagine Lundgren Punisher and Hasselhoff Fury, so good, if only visually.
I was dissapointed by SLJ Fury too. He's got nothing in common with 616 Fury, and he's not even as hardcore as Ultimate Fury. It's just SLJ sleepwalking through being SLJ and unable to curse. It'd have been at least cool if they'd done it like the comics and revealed SLJ Fury was the son of the original Fury, and had cast someone like Kurt Russell to play Old Man Fury. But, it is what it is. It's the MCU, it destroys like 80% of its characters. They literally turned Fury's injury into a scratch from an alien cat he tried to pet. These flicks are being written for Twitter, I've stopped expecting anything from them. I just look for the odd good casting and costume so that I can maybe get an HT of my favourites, period.

LOL I had no idea they explained his missing eye that way. That’s terrible. I agree, they really do write this stuff for Twitter - just see the comments by the director or whomever from Shang Chi as to why it wasn’t a spy flick like the 70s comics, complete with his supporting cast (another comic I really enjoy) or the recent comments about changing the name of the X-Men.

I try not to pay this stuff mind, because admittedly a lot ends up being overblown, but it’s all so tiresome.

Yeah, they did that in Captain Marvel. Which also genderbent Mar-Vell and wasted the character as well. Everything about the Vels is ruined in the MCU now. I doubt we'll ever get Genis or Phylla. God, I really hate that shitflick. It turned Fury into a literal joke, ruined the Vells and utterly wasted Jude Law. Bloody Carl Manvers... They should've been doing Annihilation now, but we're stuck with things like Widow and Shang Chi.

Honestly, I've stopped caring so I just look at all this nonsense and laugh. The comicfan in me is dissapointed, but my run's coming to end concerning such things. I just care about getting the HT dollies and that's it. If for example they make a What If Infinite Ultron I'm grabbing that as an Annihilation Conquest Ultron and calling it a day. If Kang gets a mask to hide that goofy face I'm getting that too. A Strange and a Wanda from DS2. And so on. I've got little hope for the X-Men, but even there I'm thinking of limiting it to the very core players. Eh, we'll see.

I would buy those. I always wanted a Lundgren Punisher figure.

Yeah, I haven’t seen Captain Marvel, or anything post-Endgame. Partly because very little of what they’re doing interests me, partly because - and I know this is a silly reason - I’ve been so turned off by the rampant “MCU can do no wrong bandwagoning” all over social media; it just seems everything bought and paid for and everyone is trying to be a successful social media personality reporting outrageous rumors for clicks.

I have seen pictures though, and yeah the Kang dude looks incredibly goofy. I was excited for Shang Chi, F4 and X-Men; SC has come and gone, and I’ve no faith at all for the other two at this point. Thankfully I still have all the comics I care to read, and toys of the versions I like. I would love a new version of this - not a reuse of the wimpy ML one.

I feel you. I mostly fast-forward through all the newer stuff. I'm just waiting for the FF/X-Men and figure keeping up isn't so hard. The MCU has become a bit of a "sacred cow", which is why I hoped that Phase 4 would backfire. They need to focus on the big guns and do it properly. There's lots of figures I wish I could have in Hot Toys form, but I'll take what I can get.

New Cap looks amazing.

SLJ and his big gut as Fury walking like an old man in that No Way Home post credits scene is painful to watch lol
Fury in general has become a non-entity at this point.

You know, I feel like Michael Corleone; just when I thought I was done with 1/6 and HT, you see one damn figure that looks good, and I’m preordering a bunch more lol.

At this point, aside from the Batman Forever and Cable figs I have on pre, the one I’m hoping is an “any day now HT” is Winter Soldier 2.0. It was my favorite all-time HT, and I sold it a few years back when I was in a tough spot financially. Huge regret of mine, considering I got a great job a month later!

That's the collecting game in a nutshell. I try to discipline myself by keeping only the essentials. Mostly because while I may really want something at some specific point in time, I usually find that years later, out of the 10 things I bought/got into, maybe 2 or 3 actually stuck. I used to be big into the Marvel Espionage side. SHIELD, HYDRA, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Dominic Fortune, etc. But, time went by, and now I don't really feel as a big a connection to it all. I'd like a Fury and a Strucker in 1/6th, but that's where it stops for me. It's similar for Cosmic Marvel. Or Green Lantern. I was deep into GL, to the point where I daydreamt about a whole shelf of the Emotional Spectrum. Now? I'd be fine with a Hal, a Sinestro, and maybe their Parallax forms. I can't drop 300$ on Carol Ferris when I'd drop the same on Doctor Strange, who's amongst my favourite capes. You have to be selective in this hobby, otherwise nothing stands out.

Man I just wish they’d rerelease the sdcc 90s Retro Hulk. I always preferred that look..

(Side note: I just wish they’d at least once give a scene where Fury could show he still got it.

Also, I guess I saw it a lot differently than everyone else but the What-If episode with Fury, Pym, and Loki. Everyone likes to say all Loki but 🤷‍♂️ *To me, physically that was all Fury. Him moving around “spree”, etc. I liked that we actually see him do something. Obviously the parts where magic is used.. )

I’m still very much into the espionage side of comics, despite not reading anything nor caring about what happens currently, so that list you have would be incredible.

Do you like the Challengers of the Unknown? That’s another book and concept I enjoyed, though I enjoy reading about weird **** like cryptids, inner earth and nazis in Antarctica LOL.

A part of me thinks they could do something different and not start so Wolverine focused, maybe actually follow the X-Men evolution and leave the general public wondering, "When is Wolverine showing up?" for awhile. Start them as teenagers, give the original crew a moment to breathe. Wishful thinking possibly.

It would be awesome to see it from the ground up with the original team, but I don’t think it wouldn’t resemble what we know and love.

It's one of those genres I grew out of, personally. I've watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for example, and I liked it, but I'm not going to dive deep into Le Carre.

I knew of it, but I didn't try getting into it. I find that with most pop culture if you're not into something by your teens, then there's really no point in trying.

I'm with you on no Wolverine, but as for the teens, I'm not too keen on it. I never much cared for teen casts, and the X-Men work better as adults IMHO. You can reference the O5 time, but I don't want to wait for the 20-somethings they'd cast to grow up so that we'd get Dark Phoenix, Inferno and the such. Also, I don't want a repeat of the FoX-Men with their trash Apocalypse teen cast. Ideally the main X-Men would be already adults and established, and the younger generation would be compromised by all the New Mutants/New X-Men/Young X-Men/Generation X/etc casts that have been around since the 80s. How they'll do that is beyond me, as you'd think they'd have involved themselves with some kind of prior event, but whatever, that's for them to figure out.

I was going back to the original X-Men stories for inspiration, and while I am not in that teen demographic (by far!) I do recognize that those "young adults" tend to be on the forefront of social issues that would mirror the mutant bigotry from the comics more than seasoned adults. Plus you have more time to make more movies and create a viable tentpole, which is Marvel's bailiwick.

Well, like I said, even when I was a kid I always loathed kid/teen characters. They were annoying little ***** written by guys in their 40s. And I know that this is an unpopular opinion, especially in a Post-FoX-Men world, but "muh allegory" was always the most stupid part of the franchise, and it ruined the property. It makes literally 0 sense but apparently nobody can see it. Every time I hear someone go "hurdur dey wuz Malelcm X n MLK hurdur" I get annoyed. X-Men begun as just another capeshit that tried to capitalise on the Nuclear Age and saved Lee from having to write origins; period. Claremont pushed it, and he was more concerned with his fetishes anyhow. Besides all that, going with teens is a bad move because you don't know how they'll grow up (see GoT and how Aria and Sansa turned out IRL), and we'll have to wait what, a decade and more to have Cyclops grown enough to have a kid? So we'll have to wait about two decades until they do New Mutants? What about Gen X or the New X-Men? Nah, it's not viable. Go with a mix of Veteran X-Men, and a bunch of the most famous teens as the Gen X and mix and match for the tentpole films, the spin-offs, the shows and so on.

Honestly, very few people actually like the teens. Nobody I ever knew, IRL or online, flocked to New Warriors over the Avengers. Granted, the people I knew IRL at best liked the X-Men, capes weren't very well known here, but you get my point. Even on Tumblr the "grown ups" are the ones fujos are more concerned with. At the site's height it was Doctor Who/Supernatural/Sherlock that drove it all. The Stony **** I've seen... They should try to grab the younger audience the way Spider-Man did back in the day, but the overwhelming majority reads Batman, not Robin. Cyclops, Jean and the such should be grown Veterans, period. Magik, Sunspot, maybe the 90s Gen X cast can be the Mid-20s YA types. Keep the 2000s New X-Men and Generation Hope as the teens. That's how you cover all your bases.

I do want to see Quentin Quire at some point. He's an absolute **** and I enjoy that type.

The Wolverine and Jubilee have me excited. I don't collect much of the smaller scales, but that's a perfect sweet spot for me to capture my X-Men collection. The Mondo 1/6 stuff, is too expensive to collect the whole team, and the Mezco stuff is harder to track down now, so Marvel Legends should do nicely. Plus it seems much more likely that they'll do the whole team plus a few others.
