I'm curious what percentage of ED-209 owners have had this rotting problem and under what conditions it has occurred. I am in the same boat as far as really wanting one, but not being willing to take the risk (and financial loss) on a toy with such a major potential flaw. Can we start a survey of sorts ED-209 owners? Has this happened to you or not?

I'd like to know how widespread the ED-209 issue is as well. Is it a coin toss or extremely rare? Does it affect both the battle damaged and clean versions or just one of them?

When someone first mentioned it here, it seemed like everyone who owned one went to check and if it wasn't completely decomposing, most had early stages of it. That's why I tapped out before getting one.

hi guy i do have ed-209 battle damage.. still in box so can you tell me what the problem??? i will check it out...don't know what to look for ?

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. I wonder what custom fixes, if any, are being done to remedy this issue. I wouldn't be surprised if you could just remove entirely the original rubber, cut out a template, and replace it with a new material.

Apparently the rubber dome or netting on the top of ED-209 has been rotting out and crumbling or peeling off.

ED-209 was my first HT item about 3 years ago. The rubber on top had been kinda peeling away from the borders, I glued it back and it has stayed. There is perhaps some minor signs of degradation on the edges but this hasn't gotten any worse since I first noticed it quite awhile ago. The only thing thats annoying me is dust on the rubber dome, possible discolouration of the plastic due to light and cigarette smoke exposure and a slightly loose 'arm' - all things that can happen to any toy if you let them.

And this isn't a 'problem' as such but it annoys me I just can't seem to manage the leg articulation to get him standing up straight and symmetrically!

No deterioration issues on mine... I check it every so often. The right arm is a little loose, but still holds positions w/o issue.

It sounds like maybe those who have kept him boxed haven't experienced the problem. Perhaps the rubber degrades from sunlight exposure, moisture, smoke, heat, etc. I'd like to hear if anyone else has a perfectly fine sealed ED-209 or not.

I'm not gonna go tearing through the forums to find it, but the original thread addressing this issue had several different variations of exposure so there wasn't a consistent environment to determine the cause.

Yea I've been one of the lucky ones too. I got the Original ED 209 a few months after it came out. So far o peeling and no damages whatsoever. But just to be safe he's on the bottom shelf of my Detolf with very limited light exposure. I love that piece.

Personally, I'd report him for it and leave him a negative feedback like "Doesn't honor auctions, AVOID!!!" Accepting an offer is a binding contract regardless of the circumstances.

How does Best Offer work?

If you are selling an item with a fixed price, you can choose the Best Offer option when you list your item for sale on eBay. With Best Offer, you give buyers a chance to negotiate the price with you. Each Best Offer is good for up to 48 hours. A Best Offer is binding, just like any other bid. There is no charge to use Best Offer.

After you receive a Best Offer, you can choose to

*Accept the Best Offer and end the listing.
*Decline the Best Offer. You can explain your reasons to the buyer if you want to.
*Respond with a counteroffer. If the buyer doesn’t respond within a reasonable amount of time, you can let the counteroffer expire.
*Let the offer expire after 48 hours or when the listing ends, whichever comes first.

The problem is that we were going to settle it outside of ebay too.
He sent me a message that he could sell it for 300 if he didnt need to pay the ebay fee. So its not much I can do, i can still report him for trying to sell it outside of ebay. But hey, that is a bit low.

Well, if you agreed to settle it out of EbaY too, then it's your loss as there's absolutely nothing you can really do. All he has to do is tell EbaY you're just disgruntled because he refused your offer so any complaining you do won't mean a damn thing. Just keep your eyes peeled for the next one.
