Love the character, wish the car was a little more g1 esque. Sunny was a bigger difference than Side in his altmode. Looks really similar to the sideswipe Lamborghini to me. At least we're getting him though!

Modifications to the rear end aside Sunstreaker is the same model Lamborghini Countach as Sideswipe....it's supposed to look similar.

MP12 set the precedent for Sunstreaker's alt mode size, the G1 toys were different in size because the early toys were culled from several different lines and the scaling was all over the place.

The rebooted Masterpiece line and 3rd party companies making figures intended to be displayed with it are trying to keep scaling as consistent as possible.

A bigger Sunstreaker wouldn't fit in with everything else and would be too wide go in MP10's trailer which is something all the official and 3rd party carbots are designed to do.

EDIT
Yet another Takara repaint,

XTransbots are doing Kup!!!!

Amazon Japan has MP27 up and has one photo of Ironhide I hadn't seen before with interchangeable hands.

I think Ironhide looks awful, the huge crotch "nappy" and hollow back make it look mis-transformed to me, not sure why people seem overjoyed with this.

Ironhide's a typical Kobayashi design, it does some things well but not nearly enough.

Vehicle mode is fine, but the robot mode is a massive step backwards from the other Takara carbots and the upcoming 3rd party ones like FT Hound or MMC Mirage and no amount of extra junk thrown in can make the main course any more appetising.

teemu,
Nice post!, I think I'll probably go with XTransbots Inferno and Make Toys Grapple as that way I get both characters with different molds.

Agreed.
If this Ironhide was a third party figure people would be loosing their heads over how "bad" it is.
TT on the box makes all the difference for some :cuckoo:

Couldn't agree more

I want Ironhide (& Ratchet) A LOT but not enough to pay money for THAT it just looks so off in so many ways & I want the best version I can have (that clearly wont be it)

I am all for supporting official products & will more than happily buy from Takara but they need to offer me THE BEST version of a given character, I wont just buy it because its official, I will wait & see what else comes but they definitely wont be selling me that one

I am however more than happy to give them money for Clampdown, I really like the mold for the Lambo & the colours look great

Really impressed with Inferno too he looks brilliant & another I will pick up

Great times ahead (if you look past Takara's offerings ;) lol)

I think the Takara name/product is over-rated...yeah,they are "official" but not the best transformer every time and with all these MP 3rd parties picking up the MP slack and lag time that Takara gives us between releases and plenty of variants (milking their molds for everything they got).I don't want to wait and die of old age trying to complete my collection of 84-86 bots,So I welcome these 3rd parties.

I don't mind supporting the official line when it's producing stuff I'm intrested in to a decent standard eg MP10-21.

But when mediocrity like Ironhide is one of the only new molds Takara have to offer and the rest of their "new" figures are repaints the appeal of the official line wears increasingly thin.

Look at the upcoming options from the better 3rd parties,

Fans Toys
Insecticons, Reflector, Hound, Sludge, Grimlock. Also known to have Skyfire, Blaster and Omega Supreme in some stage of development.

Badcube
Sunstreaker ( The Lamborghini that Takara forgot. )
Huffer 2.0

XTransbots
Already released Megatron, which is the single biggest gap in the rebooted MP line.

They also have Beachcomber, Windcharger, Tailgate, Cyclonus, Scourge, Galvatron, Kup & Inferno/Grapple on the way and have teased a few other Minibots including Cosmos and Powerglide.

MMC
Mirage
Insecticons

Make Toys
Already released Reflector & Chromedome.
Hound
Inferno/Grapple
Hardhead

With all those new characters to choose from many of which are high on my wants list, saving my cash just so I can buy the next few repaints from Takara instead isn't really an option I'm willing to explore.

Ironhide does seem a bit too lanky for my tastes, but I think he still looks pretty good in several pics we've seen. That one pic above just has him in an awkward pose, so I'm not using that to color my expectations. I agree that he isn't as great as I would like, but some other Takara MPs didn't really shine until I had them in-hand, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until that point. While it's true that some 3rd party designs are as good as nearly anything Takara has done, no one has done a better Ironhide than this yet, so it's this or a lesser figure or nothing for the moment.

And in fairness, in a lot of the toons he did look a bit weird in the same way that this figure sometimes does:

I think a larger head would make a world of difference.

Agreed on it all.

3P is GREAT for characters we are likely never going to see made by TT, and that's awesome.

Vs an official release, I personally don't see the point, but clearly some of you do, and that's perfectly fine.

Great avatar, btw! You a SF fan? I LOVE the damn thing.

I'm sure the 3P will be all over new parts and improvements for Ironhide at some point.

Most of these pictures are just posed super awkwardly. For me, Takara's version looks more like the cartoon Ironhide than any of the 3P I've seen.
