I also had Red Alert only as a kid, but will pick up Sideswipe as well. I always loved those character designs. And the Lambo, come on. Coolest car of the mid-80s.

I've got both pre-ordered but will probably get a second Sideswipe to keep in car mode as it's my favorite car of all time.

I will do the same for Sunstreaker if the rumors about him being an original mold are true.

Sideswipe looks great, but we knew that already. ;)

I don't have Red Alert preordered yet, though. I'll probably end up getting him as well but Sideswipe and Soundwave were the priority at the time (plus I got the Japanese Amazon exclusives, and Red didn't have one of those, apparently).

I can't make my mind up on whether to pre-order Soundwave next or get my second Sideswipe sorted.

I'm also torn over the ArtFeather Bumblebee especially after seeing that the doors can be removed from the arms in robot mode without the use of a saw :lol

I think an official MP Bumblebee is still unikely but I'm not impressed with what's been seen of iGear's PP04 so I may just hang on and see if something better comes along.

That's the 3rd party reshell of the CHUG mold, right? I didn't know those could be removed... not that it was a huge deal for me, but I do appreciate the option...

They're nothing special. I think Soundwave comes with extra energon cubes and Sideswipe comes with chrome things that attach to his hands (it's from an episode where he digs from out of some debris or something).

I blame Sideshow Freaks for getting me hooked on Sideshow Exclusives, because I just had to have them. :)

Where can I see that pic? That's my one main gripe about the AF figure but if it can be taken off, I'm completely sold on it.

Didn't know about that BB!!
It's awesome!!
Definitely getting one!!

I don't mind the doors...
this IS BB!!!

I think it looks really nice aside from the silver colored bits on his knees and shoulders and the alt mode is obviously way better than a generic small car.

But given the G1 accuracy that iGear and Takara are now proving can be achieved I'm convinced that something better than a reshell of an aging Classics mold will come along in the near future.

Maybe the sales of the MP Lamborghinis will be good enough to convince VW to throw their "no war toys" policy totally out of the window in the name of cold, hard cash and the Beetle will be usable again officially or maybe iGear's PP04 will look OK once it's finished.

Pretty nice. I always keep my classics BB in bot mode though, so I probably won't go for that. I wonder if they'll also do Cliffjumper. . .

Should be easy enough to knock out a red repaint with a remolded head from WFC Cliffjumper.

Or they could do another reshell and beat iGear to releasing the first modern Cliffjumper to have his G1 Porsche 924 alt mode.

I didn't care so much about the doors but you're right - it makes a world of difference!

Aging or not, it's a really great mold. Nice that they added open hands, too.

Hard to say, though... That's an attitude that's been ground right into the mindset of a lot of German society and culture since WWII. It goes beyond the sort of thing you might see here in North America, or (presumably) Britain. It's much more than being PC for them - I mean, WWII is an enormously embarassing chapter in history for most Germans, from what I've seen, and I've met a good number of German citizens, been to the country a couple of times, and even took several courses in the language.

Anyway, is there an update for this guy? Are preorders up? I haven't been paying much attention lately...

I would love to see that. From what I've seen of iGear's design for Cliffy, it looks nice but doesn't quite hit the mark, at least in terms of G1 cartoon accuracy (which is, admittedly, a difficult thing to do if you want a realistic car alt mode for the guy).

Then I wonder why was the Volkswagon originally allowed for use back in the '80s? I have had German friends, and the WWII issue is an odd one from my POV since there is nothing comparable for Americans to deal with (closest thing being attempts at eradicating Native American populations). Certainly nothing that breeds guilt and shame into our psyches from an early age.

I've also wondered about that and the only thing I can think of is some loophole in licensing laws at the time.

The original Diaclone mold that became the G1 toy was based on a Penny Racer and in the Diaclone bio the character was actually meant to be 1:1 scale....a toy car for an alt mode.

As that looked different enough from the real car it must have stayed under VW's radar.

Ok, you guys know more about this stuff than I do. I just got the TRU ex MP Thundercracker. I had the old Wal Mart ex Starscream, so I remember it being a complex transformation, so I bust out the instruction manual, and Hasbro did the instructions up for the old MP-3 mold. I just had to laugh. There were a few things I had to figure out on my own, but nothing common sense didn't prevail over. Any reason why Hasbro did that, other than just flat-out drooping the ball?

Also, on the back of his shoulder is a decal of the camera, kinda looks like the one TFC Toys is getting ready to release, and it says 'say cheese'. Does that have any relevance in the TF universe? I grew up on Transformers, but just the toys and cartoons. I don't know a lot of the background stuff. I do like the decal on the tail fins of a seeker holding Soundwave in radio form on it's shoulder, all retro '80s style.

In all, I really like some of the nit-picky stuff this new mold cleaned up that I didn't like about the old one. I actually ordered this one on-line, but saw some in the wild and picked an extra one up. Glad I did, I really like this one. I might try to pick up the MP-11 Starscream coronation one. The original animated movie is still one of my favorite movies to date, so with liking this new mold that is extra appeing to me now.

Thanks, guys :wave

Did they even attempt to get licenses back then? I was kind of under the impression that they didn't, but I may be wrong about that. The Minibots certainly aren't entirely accurate when it comes to their alt modes...

Unfortunately, I think most of us North Americans can conveniently "forget" about that chapter since it doesn't have nearly the amount of media exposure that WWII had, and continues to get. Nor are we educated all that much about it (and I'm including Canadians in this).

I hate to continue to go off-topic but Japan seems to do a good job of "forgetting" their own atrocities during the war. Guess we need more shows like Letters from Iwo Jima and the Pacific... but don't get me wrong, I like Japan and Japanese culture quite a bit. After all, they did give us Transformers, too!

Looks great to me. I just PO'd him, and was told he's expected to be released within the next week or so, so if/when something better does come out,it won't be for some time so I can still enjoy this one for awhile. Worst-case scenario, I can have this one to keep in alt mode next to the new TRU MP Prime.

I believe Thundercracker took pictures with Reflector in his/their alt mode in the old cartoon. I think it was the three-part pilot... maybe he did it in other episodes too.

No idea about the other decal, though.

They're nice little references, but personally I wish Hasbro had omitted them for aesthetic reasons.

As for the MP-3 instructions... I'm guessing they were just being cheap!

I only glanced at the instructions, but did see the thing about an alternate face and couldn't figure out what was going on considering my figure didn't seem to switch it out that way :lol No idea about the camera. I would assume it is some reference to the cartoon.

1.Hasbro are idiots.

Many instruction manuals have missing or incorrect steps.

My advice would be to forget the actual manuals and follow an online review.

2.The camera thing is probably a reference to the G1 character Reflector who turned into a camera.
