DAMN, AMAZON IS THE ^^^^! Might have to look into this for future trade ins.

good. hopefully this'll put gamestop out of business. they short change you when you trade in the games, yet they charge only $5 less than a NEW copy of the game.

It won't last. Sooner or later, if/when Amazon's Used/Trade-in games system becomes more successful, it'll become another Gamestop in terms of their practices and prices (as well as $$$ offers for trade-ins).

Not surprisingly, Gamestop's CEO Don Matteo responds to Amazon's used games announcement and predicts doom on Amazon's part.

From Kotaku:

GameStop CEO Dooms Amazon's Used Game Biz To Failure

In a shocking turn of events, GameStop CEO Don Matteo has weighed in on Amazon.com's new attempts to enter the used video games business, saying that the online retailer has no chance of succeeding.

"I give the probability of this working at zero," DeMatteo told Edge Online, noting that the immediacy of credit and cash trade-in value that only brick and mortar stores can offer is what makes the practice appealing to consumers. That and the thrill of peeling away dozens of yellow paper stickers.

DeMatteo says that attempts at GameStop and Electronics Boutique similar to Amazon's model were unsuccessful. He doesn't see Amazon faring much better. And they're also stupidheads.

Given Amazon's turnaround on crediting consumers for used games and the method in which they do it, he may be right. I'm very tempted to try out the Amazon service, but almost equally as lazy.

I love how he comments on the "immediacy" of trade in credit. "Welcome to gamestop where you can reserve some game doesn't yet have a release date, how may I help you?" :lol

Amazons values are better but looking at both the Amazon and GS trade in pages, the values are very similar. Not too mention if you have the Edge card at GS, you get 10% more per trade, and they are usually running bonus credit incentives for new preorders. I'll stick with GS if I want to trade. Ebay or the boards here are usually best bets.

Trade ins are not worth it. i would rather sell it to a friend and get 5 bucks more for it. then at least I have the option to buy it back. Or even a barter system works.

I sell my games on ebay and get top dollar. Screw Gamestop.

Half.com is where I usually sell my games. Way more money for me than Gamestop would provide.

I've done that in the past, but with ebay's fees, plus the hassle of their policies and "bidders," and when you consider Gamestop's occasional bonus 20% promotion, it usually ends up being a wash.

At least for the crap I've sold.

The Trade in values dont seem that much better then gamestop. Trade value seem like crap. . I hate trading in games since it seems they give you nothing back for them. Im begining to stockpile a whole bunch of used games. I guess Ill do like Nash and sell on Ebay.

We should set up a place here where we can list our games and how much we want for them. See how that goes. i bet there would even be some even trades that would happen. Just an idea.
