I honestly don't know if this counts as a spoiler - it's definitely the kind of stuff that will be revealed very early in toys and ****, and I don't think there's a story reveal or anything. But I'm putting a spoiler warning just for the very sensitive.

Yesterday JoBlo had some news about Ant-Man, including a description of the villain's costume, a suit of armor they described as black and yellow. I waited to see if anyone would pick up on that color scheme and what it meant, but I don't think anyone did. So I guess I'll tell you:

The villain in Ant-Man is Yellowjacket. You'll note that this is way outside of the comic canon, as Ant-Man Hank Pym himself was Yellowjacket for a while - he had a bunch of different super-identities, with Yellowjacket being one of the edgier ones. This doesn't mean Hank Pym is the villain (as many have speculated in the past), as he won't be in the suit. Pym is much more of a mentor to Scott Lang in this film.

It's an interesting repurposing of existing Marvel IP, and I suppose it makes sense - it's unlikely the Marvel Cinematic Universe will ever use the different Hank Pym identities, so why not use one of them for this movie and have it be a villain? Yellowjacket was Pym's identity when he famously beat his wife, and that iteration of Pym is pretty much the 'multiple personality disorder' version of him, so having Yellowjacket be a villain makes... some sense?

Basically this is one of the bigger divergences Marvel is making from their comic canon, and I suspect the only fans who will really care will dislike the change. Most of the audience simply won't give a **** about Yellowjacket's history - they could call the villain Tiny Terror and it would all be the same (well, except Tiny Terror is a bad name. Or a great name, depending on the story you're telling, I guess).

A note on the other stuff in the JoBlo story: Some of it is news to me, and perhaps reflects changes Adam McKay is making (or are just wrong). Darren Cross is definitely the industrialist villain... but will it be him in the Yellowjacket suit?

What do you think? Do you like having Yellowjacket be a villain in the Ant-Man film? Or do you wish Marvel had saved that identity for future heroics?

Yellowjacket started as a villain, one of Pym's 'split personalities', he claimed that he had killed off Pym...would be interesting to see this and have him play both the villain and the good guy.

I really hope they show the trailer for Ant-Man and it looks awesome. I really hope people get on board when they start showing it.

I know it's a long shot... I just really feel sorry for those involved with this movie.
Paul Rudd didn't do anything wrong.

Yeah, I think the director change and talk of rewrites has made some interest in this wane. Hope to see some kick ass stuff from this to reignite interest, but it is easy to disregard at this point.

You forget he was in the Academy Award Winning Picture 'Year One'

I don't know about you but i'm super excited for the Avengers sequel.

Antman, i'm confused what Marvel is trying to accomplish with him.

What I meant is that Avengers is the only one audiences, well Internet commenters, are actually excited about. People seem either indifferent or against Ant-Man and Fantastic Four

Is this even going to make it out next year? With all of the struggles they've been having, I wouldn't be surprised if this gets bumped back - SDCC being the opportune time to announce that.

Can they do that though? With their format they have a two a year schedule. If they push this back the all others would have to be pushed back a year.

Earlier this summer, the saga of Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man and being replaced by Peyton Reed unfolded over just two weeks. Speaking at a Q&A for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, at which footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron was shown and can be read about by clicking here, IGN asked Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige why he decided on Reed to direct the film, which allowed him to open about about the process:

“Peyton is someone that I’ve been a fan of for a long time. People may not remember, though probably your readers remember, that he was attached to Fantastic Four more than 10 years ago. We spent a lot of time together… and I got along with Peyton very, very well and he had awesome ideas and an awesome vision for the movie, and for various reasons he ended up leaving that movie…’Peyton was always on our lists, and so when this happened and Edgar [Wright] said ‘Not for me’ we met with a handful of people, but Peyton was always one that I thought would be great.

“It was not a slam-dunk that he would just step into it and do it. He wanted to be sure that he was wasn’t just inheriting something or following someone else’s lead. Or wasn’t inheriting something that the evil studio had watered down to be something bad. I kept saying, ‘You can either read what’s online, or come in and talk to us and look at all this stuff.’ He looked at everything, he talked with us, and he said ‘Number one, I agree with the direction you’re going in. And number two, I can add to it.’ And he has – the movie is in as good a shape as it’s ever been right now.’

Even though like 3 other directors were offered the job before him, of course he was always the perfect choice for the role.

Marvel were just tricking you. Smoke and mirrors. They knew Peyton Reed was always gonna trump Edgar Wright.

I heard that the after credits scenes are the actual scenes, and the actual scenes are the after credits scenes.
