There wasn't any general excitement for Guardians either. It made way more money due to awesome word of mouth. People were curious but weren't itching to see it. Same with Ant-Man but we'll have to see how the movie turns out when it comes

It's funny and a little sad to me that this movie isn't getting the kind of hype you would expect from a big Marvel movie. Even for me, I almost forgot all about this movie. I guess it could just be from AOU stealing all of my attention, but I do genuinely want to see this and hope it does well.

There was HUGE excitement for GOTG- the trailers went over BIG with audiences and alot were predicting it was a gamble that would pay off for Marvel..

AM has gotten "meh" from most fans I've talked to...doesn't mean it won't be a big hit if it turns out really good..

Plus theres a lot of negativity surrounding the director change

Hmm thats interesting cause I talked to a lot of my friends who are casual fans and they're all pretty interested in the film. But when it comes to comic fans, they're all still butt hurt about Hank not being the main character.

Not to mention Guardians was a relatively new series and even most comic fans haven't really heard of them so of course everyone is going to show interest

I'm hoping once publicity for it kicks up that there will be a lot more buzz for the movie. I think it's going to be great, but I'm not sure how well it will do.

Yeah they will go into overdrive for this movie after Avengers, unless they make soooo much money from Avengers they just don't care if this flops or not :rotfl
but Marvel Studios and flop don't go together all that often, even their bad movies do $500M+

This may be Marvel's biggest up hill battle. GOTG had a lot going for it in terms of 'cool' factor and merchandising *cough*Rocket*cough. Ant-Man is just a tough sell. My wife who's very much a casual superhero fan, but loves the Marvel flicks has ZERO interest in this one, and as of right now has told me she won't go see it. She says it looks stupid and Marvel must have run out of good superheroes. I have a feeling that the general public will think much along the same lines unfortunately. That Marvel marketing machine will have to work overtime to change some minds.

Well, all we've seen is a teaser trailer so yeah nothing much yet. After Ultron garuntee they'll be like "LOOK! ANTS EVERYWHERE"!

Honestly I'm having great fun reading the new Ant-Man series with Scott Lang. And I've heard sales are promising if that means anything

Law of Averages: Marvel is going to have a "flop" sooner or later- impossible to ignore. This may be it...or maybe it will be Dr Strange or Capt Marvel or Inhumans blah blah blah:lol

I do believe eventually there will be a flop but usually that comes from studios superseding creative control. So far Marvel knows when to but out.

Well Marvel does look for directors with their films first to share the vision they want to go.

That being said this film can go either way because of what happened with Wright

This movie needs a trailer that will make the audience say "Oh, I want to see that". There are plenty of opportunities to do that with a superhero that can shrink to the size of ant. Remember how great "Honey, I shrunk the kids" was? Man, I loved that movie when I was kid.

Needs more scenes of him fighting, that would be pretty epic if done right

fight scenes would be reminiscent of fight club's narrator vs narrator.

i am jack's complete lack of surprise.
