At first I thought you had a carded Takara Zartan but that's a straight-up US-style custom isn't it?

Thanks, and correct. I've come close to getting the Takara one a few times, but it's always ssssslipped through my fingersssss!

The Takara is nice but I prefer the explosion like the US series.

No doubt. The only thing is that the Takara was the only carded, legit, original Zartan made available. U.S. was only released with Swamp Skiier in the box (which is really fantastic in itself, of course). Later on the mold was re-used for a Funskool version, but was a pale shadow of the original in many ways.

The US card fronts owned, but I do like the Sears Wishbook style backs on the Takara, maybe I wouldn't have drawn big X's over them if I had that style of backs when I was younger.

I find buying these guys loose is way more fun, don't have to think about opening them and I enjoy changing O-rings so that's usually first order of business with new arrivals, all 3 of these guys needed it badly anyway
