if so, could someone give a review or even some home taken pics of it? and how long is it? how accurate?

I don't have it, and I don't really know too much about bullwhips. But there is a forum on www.indygear.com, "Club Obi Wan", that discusses Indy whips (and all his costume pieces and props). They completely disregard the Noble Collection version as overpriced and poorly made. Basically just a "cheap" souvenir that looks okay hung on the wall. I joined last year, as I was in the market for an Indy style whip, and found out that you would have to spend $400-$800 for a screen-accurate, well-crafted whip. David Morgan (https://www.davidmorgan.com/indy_bullwhips.html) supplied the whips for the first 3 movies, and his is considered the absolute best. On the other end of the price spectrum, Gus Caicedo (https://www.purewhips.com/whips.htm) is considered to make the best "Indy on a budget" whip. He makes them out of cow hide instead of kangaroo hide, which saves money but doesn't look as sleek. His whips are tough, durable and crack like the pro whips. His least expensive is $160.

I would recommend you join the forum (you can't troll) and take in some of the information if you're really serious about getting a whip. They have a full list of reputable whip makers and sellers with varying degrees of cost and they are all friendly and more than helpful with questions.

And unfortunately, I never did get that whip! But I would most likely get the Gus Caicedo as the price is right, it looks pretty good and supposedly handles great especially for beginners.

thanks for the info! and also, your avvy, isnt that the 2 cartoons from nick jr that would turn into a hand doing somerthing? lol, where did you get that pic?

I bought my first (and best) whip from Adam Winrich. He holds 7 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS.

It's a 4 plait 8 foot, though, instead of 12 plait. It's also made of cowhide. Unfortunately he no longer makes them. I also have an older version of Gus Caicedo's 8 plait 8 foot Indy whip. It's a little thin. I don't know if his newer ones are any thicker, but mine is nice.

Technically, Gus' whip is more accurate in several ways. And since Adam no longer makes his, your best bet for a nice inexpensive whip is Caicedo.

dude where did you get that hat! it looks really good and accurate!

Thanks, man.

I would guess that his fedora is either a Magnoli HJ or one of Steve Delk's...

I wish. The first hat is a standard Federation from Hatsdirect. I'm not sure they make it anymore since they released the Federation IV. In the second picture is a Christy's Adventurer. They were both about $100. I bashed them both myself. I also "aged" them with Fuller's Earth.

I long for the day I could afford either of the hats mfisher mentioned. But I am waiting on one of John Penman's beaver felt Last Crusade style fedoras. His are Adventurebilt quality at a much nicer price. He even sells Marc Kitter's Adventurebilt Henry, which is sort of the "budget" Adventurebilt.

Here's John's site: https://www.penmanhats.com/

Plus, the Magnoli Herbert Johnson is a great hat. Mainly due to the fact that Steve Delk re-blocks them and adds vintage HJ ribbons. They are still made of rabbit felt, whereas Penman's fedoras are beaver felt and $20 less. Either way, you can't really loose.

I got the second hat at Hornets Hats, London. Get the Adventurer in "Sable."
Fur Felts

The cool thing about the Adventurer is it's made by Christy's of London. They use the same exact felt as Herbert Johnson (same supplier). So, it's basically a Herbert Johnson for $200 cheaper.

You can also get a really accurate hat from Hatsdirect. The color is slightly off, but it's a much tougher and reliable hat than the Adventurer.
Federation IV

The downside to these hats is you have to bash them yourself.

The jacket is from Wested Leather based in Kent, England. I bought the Special Offer Raiders ROLA Authentic Lambskin.
Wested Leather 'IndyJacket' website

Plus, I sent you a PM.

I finally just coughed up the money this past summer and bought one of Magnoli's... After talking to Steve Delk on the phone he pretty much convinced me... the original Raider's fedora was a HJ.. so I feel like I got the best of both worlds.. a HJ fedora hand crafted by Delk !

Congrats! He really does make those hats even better than the original. I'm guessing he made you the Raiders style with the famous turn?

really cool costume set-up mr. fusion! :) i especially love the hats. now, i need your advice...

i have a fedora that i ordered from london, but i'm not very happy with it cos the crown is too short and too tapered, unlike indy's, which as u know, has a much taller and straighter crown. if i'm not mistaken, indy's is the australian version of the classic fedora which accounts for the distinctive crown.

so my questions are:

1) which of the 2 hats are more accurate to indy's---the adventurer from christy's or the federation iv from hatsdirect? from your pics they both look pretty similar to me.

2) what's the difference between the federation & federation iv?

3) did u do anything to the shape of the federation hat? cos in the hatsdirect page it says the defora comes "open crown to shape as u desire".

my advice is to head over to www.indygear.com and hit their forum.. you will learn EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about fedoras, whips, jackets etc.... very informative site for all things gear related..

thanks for the heads up, mfisher. i have been to indygear.com actually. the problem is, most of the stuff they talk about are totally screen accurate and therefore very expensive. i don't need such faithful replicas, just close representations will do. and the stuff mr. fusion mentioned are quite affordable/easier to get...

First, thank you. Second, the hats pictured are the Akubra Federation regular from Hatsdirect and the Christy's Adventurer respectively. I didn't post the Fed IV.

The differences between the Fed IV and the original regular Federation are these: the Fed IV's block is much more accurate, the crown and brim are the proper height and length, the color on the Fed IV is a little bit better. The Fed IV Deluxe (which is a little more expensive) is made of finer rabbit felt, has a nicer sweatband, and is generally a tougher hat.

If you want the more accurate hat... it's a tough decision. Pros and cons: the Adventurer is very accurate in block, color, and is made from the same material as stock Herbert Johnson Poets. This hat however is much more delicate than the Federation IV. It also has an atrocious and highly inaccurate bow stitched on to the ribbon. The Fed IV is only less accurate in color. The closest color that Hatsdirect makes to Indy's hat is Dark Brown. Tawny Fawn is way too light, more of a light tan than a rich brown. The color on the Adventurer is dead on.

In conclusion, I would go with the Federation IV, if you don't mine the color being off.

Oh, and I would also check out the Indy Lounge. Join, and ask any question you like. There will be no dumb questions. Everyone over there is really nice. Tell 'em Josh sent you.:D

thanks very much for the explanations, josh/mr. fusion. :D

that certainly helps a lot. i'm also leaning towards the federation iv, though it's slightly more expensive compared to the adventurer after factoring in conversion to my currency plus shipping costs.

also, what do u think of this hat?

i'm not sure of the exact brand and name, but the site calls it the "downtowner"--- from toddscostumes.com (thanks for the link, bmarz1000!)

i quite like the look of it, esp the tightly-pinched crown, which imo looks pretty close to the raiders hat. not too sure about the ribbon though.

their whip looks good too!

so tempting... :drool

They have one called the "Uptowner" as well. It's $50 more and has a LOT going for it. The advantages are: better felt, more accurate block shape, silk lining, etc. The "Downtowner" is REALLY stiff (like a cowboy hat) and has an exaggerated shape (really tall crown and wide brim). Todd is currently tweaking the Downtowner to be more like the Uptowner in terms of it's block shape. Otherwise the differences are in the materials.

Todd's whips are very screen accurate and reasonably priced. If you want one for prop use (that you can also crack) or something you can hang on your wall it's your best bet.
