Anyone have the Noble Collection Indy whip??

thanks for the feedback n info, guys. that's why i love this board.

think i might order the whip. the only one i have right now is pretty crappy, it's only 6 feet long and it's black-coloured (yeah, i know, i know)... i bought this from, errr... an "adult" shop. ahem.

just kinda worried that customs in my country might consider the whip a weapon and confiscate it. sigh. just gotta take the risk i guess. unless u guys have any ideas how to avoid detection.


bmarz, so are u saying todd will be coming up with an improved version of the downtowner?

Yes, it will be styled more in-line with the Uptowner. Same shape, different materials, same stiffness...

toddscostumes has run outta stock for the 8ft prop whips.

i ordered the downtowner hat though. according to todd it's the new version with revised block.

i saw some alternatives for whips on ebay. while they're not totally screen accurate (colour's off, the loop is not braided, etc), they look quite well made to me.

i've been eyeing this one: it's 8-feet long, 12-plait (which apparently means it's much denser and tougher). what do u guys think?

When did Todd say the whips would be in? I'd hold out until they're back in stock. The one you showed looks a little cheap.

there were some problems with their website earlier on. at first, the 8ft whip showed up in my cart but then when i tried to checkout it said the item was out of stock. they still have the 10ft version but that's outta my budget.

really bmarz, u think the ebay one looks cheap? hmmm. i don't have a more detailed image of todd's whip so it's hard to compare. any of u guys have one of his? appreciate it if u could post pics here...

It doesn't look THAT bad. Only, I've owned one that was similar and it was cheap. The leather was really bad. Also, if you want an Indy whip it should have the braided handle. How about Lee Keppler? His site is adventuresupply.com. Check his out. Otherwise, I'd go to COW and Indygear. Shop around in the whip section. Those guys really know their stuff! Plus, there are some guys there that have the whip from Todd.

hey guys, i got my indy hat a few days ago! (mods, i'm posting it in this thread cos we've been discussing both whips and hats anyway.)

here's some thoughts about it...

the model i ordered from todd's costumes is the downtowner.

i'm pretty happy with it cos i finally have something much more screen accurate. it's not 100% accurate though. the ribbon colour is a chocolate-brown rather than a very dark brown/off-black shade like in the film.

and as some of u pointed out, the downtowner's crown height is a little over-exaggerated. the first time i put it on, i thought it looked a bit out-of-proportion. but when i scrutinized the scenes with ford in his hat, it seemed about right. to my knowledge, the raiders version of the hat has always been slightly taller anyway. and the more i wore it, the more alright it seemed to look. just takes some getting used to, i suppose.

also, it fits pretty snugly on my head, and it's pretty comfortable. i could wear it all day long. and i live in the tropics! the material is indeed a lot stiffer than what u'd expect with fur felt. but i actually prefer the stiffness because most of the time it'll be on display, so imo it's better to have a harder material which can retain that distinctive shape (straight-crown & downwards-sloping front brim) over a long period of time.

here's a couple of hastily shot pics. oh yeah, i really like the box it was shipped in. a simple, classic n charming design. so thought i'd show u guys what it looks like...

yeah, i ordered the 10ft prop whip and web belt from todd as well. i'm a little concerned about the whip cos i have no idea whether my country's customs will consider it a "dangerous weapon" and confiscate it!
