So I'm currently a student at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, studying Web/Graphic design and I'm looking to transfer to another school (for various reasons) But I was wondering if anyone has / knows someone who has attended any of the following schools. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible before I go with a decision :) The Academy is a decent school, but I would like to explore my options wisely :D

Here are the schools I'm looking into:

1) Arts Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA)

2) Otis College of Art and Design (Los Angeles, CA)

3) Ringling College of Art and Design (Sarasota, FL)

I've been lucky enough to meet a member here that has given me some insight on these schools. I would just like to see if there are any members that are current/graduates from these schools that could give me some better insight and opinions on the school. I'm finding that ALL private schools will boast about themselves, but you will find the flaws after you've been admitted and begun your degree program

Thanks for the help guys!

My EX-GF's friends went to school at Ringling in Sarasota. I heard nothing but good things about the classes and what not. The campus is pretty nice and Sarasota is an awesome area in general. That's pretty much all I have to say so hopefully it can help you a little bit.

I've heard the same thing about Ringling. You should also look into Massachusetts College of Art or Rhode Island School of Design. They are both excellent art schools as well that you should add to the list.

Yeah, the name RISD came up a few times and I've heard it's a great place. But I've narrowed down my locations to Cali or Florida. Thanks for the responses guys, keep em coming :D

I've known people that go to Ringling, and it's legit, so look into that one a bit more. Have you thought about SCAD in Savannah? Savannah is an awesome town.

Yeah, I already applied to Ringling and I'm waiting to hear a response about transferring. I plan on visiting their campus when I come home for Thanksgiving weekend :D

But I also looked at Savannah, and it looks like a beautiful campus! My only concern about moving back to the east coast is that the industry won't be as abundant as out here in Cali

Not a problem! Just thought I'd throw RISD out there. It's such a great art school. I had a few friends that went there and spoke highly of the school.

Well why can't you move back afterwards? :D

Why are you deciding to leave San Fran?

Well I COULD move back if I find a job back on the west coast. But I feel like I'll miss out on the opportunity to network and meet people out in Cali if I'm back in Florida.... From the people I've spoken to in the industry, a lot of the work they find is trough connections. And finding jobs through Monster.com and stuff is super tough to land

The main reason I'm leaving SF is because the curriculum at my school is still in the development stages, and I'm missing a lot of fundamental classes I feel to be vital. So I'm exploring my options :)

Well I think you should go to Ringling, as you would be closer to us awesome Florida Freaks like Bamboota, hairlesswookiee, The Ween, p!tu, DarkArtist81, and myself!

I almost applied to Ringling - in the central Florida area it's the premiere art school.

Don't forget about Khev. He's a local Tampon as well.

:lecture :lecture To answer your question I really can't give anything more than a thumbs up. I never talked to my exes' friends that much about school. Like Dave said if you plan on living in the Florida area Ringling is pretty much THE art school to attend.

Thanks for the info and opinions guys.... I have appointments to see the schools in LA in two weeks, and an appointment to see Ringling in November. So I'll make my decision after seeing them all :D

Well, I just visited both schools in LA. Otis was more "simple" and pretty laid back as people mentioned..... And Arts Center portrayed a very "prestigious" vibe. Very exclusive and SECLUDED school up in the Pasadena hills. LA was SUPER intimidating with it's sheer size and Hollywood glamorous feel...... I hate to say it, but I'm almost too intimidated by living in LA. It's overwhelming at first.....

Sooooo, in a couple weeks I'll be seeing Ringling. But Thanks for everyone's input on all this :) If anyone cares to share their experience with LA I'd love to hear it :D
