I'm amazed hearing all the troubles you guys have had. I've had my share of issues with the Aliens warrior figures, but the paint and rubber is still in good condition. I've handled them a fair amount, too, but rather carefully after snapping the knee joint on one. That and the feet falling off due to cracked inserts in the feet was the worst of my experiences with them... so far. :monkey4

Maybe the best thing to do is (carefully) pose them a certain way and then leave them be as much as possible. Someone mentioned giving them a light coating of ArmorAll to protect the rubber. I haven't done it with mine, but it might be a good idea, depending on your local climate. They're really great looking figures, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, they're not perfect. :monkey2

The HT Aliens figure is easily the worst of HT's efforts in terms of durability and accuracy. So, yeah, it kinda sucks...
It's a beautiful figure, but has way too many issues.
I love "playing" and posing my figures, but the joy left pretty quickly with the Aliens figure. I leave it alone most of the time now, and I really don't mess around with the jaws (that goes for all HT aliens).

They look good but the Aliens Warrior was very flimsy in my opinion.

Had alot of factory defects

Mine had a broken ankle from the manufacturer and ive heard its a real common problem same with the leg snapping off also

I had small issues with the Aliens figure, mostly the ankle was very weak due to the plastic in the female part cracking. I eventually put some superglue in both ankles and worked the joint until it dried. Since then its been fine.

The other alien I have (AVP) never had any issues.

My Aliens warrior broke last week. I was dusting and moved it to get behind him and set him back down and his leg snaped.

That truly sucks. The Aliens warriors were definitely a cursed lot. Hopefully HT has learned from all the problems people have had with 'em and will never let it happen again.

I really think there must have been an issue with the plastic they used. The joints that worked were great, but seemed almost everyone had bad ankles... and a lot had leg issues.

I still think they should do a re-run of this figure and fix the problems.

If I had futzed with it a lot I could see the leg breaking, but since I had heard so many horror stories about the legs I posed mine when I got it and pretty much never messed with it. I was pretty stunned when his leg just snapped like that.

My thoughts exactly. The plastic they used for the female part of the joint inside the feet was way too weak and brittle. Almost anything else would've held up better than that inferior stuff. A lot of the hard plastic they used in the other joints was also a bit too brittle for its intended purpose and is prone to shattering when flexed beyond a certain point... Major bummer.

My AVP Alien (black version) is about a month old. I've named him Buddy. Buddy gets played with alot. I'm careful though, I don't stress the joints, but I like to see what cool poses I can get him in.

I've had the PVC outer skin tear at the neck seam, which needed super glue to repair, no loss of paint yet.

I think the figure is a great design, it's the execution that suffers. The PVC outer skin is fragile, and will probably not stand the test of time.... PVC rarely does.

So I'll enjoy Buddy for as long as I have him, and will effect any repairs if needed.

Have three aliens now:

Aliens brown: with all of the same problems mentioned above!!!

AVP-R Alien: with no defects, but I can tell his tendons on the jaw would snap if I over used them.

And my absolute favorite, and I'm extremely happy I got him:

The AVP brown repaint: with the smooth dome head, he is by far my favorite and surprised the crud out of me that his quality was so top notch after having so much trouble with the Aliens figure.

:D

The Hot Toys Aliens are all made from some kind of PVC/Rubber materials. These materials degenerate very quickly when exposed to a high temperature environment. The rate of degradation becomes worse when a high humidity environment is present in addition to high temperature.

Generally, storage of these Alien figures in the attic or in a garage where summer temperature can reach the higher ends of the normal temperature range will result in fast degradation. Some of you bought your Aliens from other collectors who may unknowningly store their figures in places of high temperature and humidity. Thus, even though these Aliens figures may come to you mint in mint boxes, but because of storage conditions, the PVC/Rubber materials may already have started to degenerate.

This may also explain why the paint "started peeling" when you removed them from the boxes. Actually, the paint is already coming off due to the degradation of the rubber materials but you will only notice it the moment you touched it.

My advice? For those of you who haven't yet own the Aliens figures or some of the Alien figures, do not buy them from collectors or sellers who reside in countries or states known for high temerature or humidity. Examples or countries/states with relatively high temperature and humidity are States in the Southern part of the US, Mexico, South East Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei), Northern Australia and South America.

And do not forget the air circulation in the room where you store your figures, especially those with rubber parts like the Alien and Aliens figures. For me, I had a fan in the room where I store and display my figures. The fan is turned on for at least 4 or 5 hours during the day in the summer months.

Sound advice, but in the UK we haven't really got many options. I bought mine from Canada on eBay, and who knows how it was stored?

I keep ALL of my collection in a room with black curtains to prevent sunlight form coming in. It's also closed all day, every day with the central air vent open to keep it nice and cool.

The only time it's opened is to show somebody the collection.
