Not all ! ;D You can link to the ones I have there in my Dino album if you want. They are all in it. ;)

I was really tempted to take her off her base..but then I figured the one peg might get dirty or something and not fit back in..I was paranoid I guess.. lol

Great pics Chris. I Received mine today, as well. Unfortunately, this looks to have the worst paint job out of all the pieces so far. I have been one of the few on here, that doesn't gripe and moan, expecting profeesional grade work. Chris is right about the eyes. Sadly the whole thing looks as if they thought the size of the piece would wow you enough, so that you wouldn't notice the sub-par paint apps. :(

Unlike most cases, Chris's pics make this thing look better than it actually is.

I still love the sculpt, which unfortunately wasn't given the paint apps it deserved. If I had the balls, I'd get Martin to do a re-paint, but i'm lucky it arrived without breaks already.:rotfl

Here are a few pics of mine. Here you can see the size difference between this and the Foulkes 1/15 Apatosaurus. This also gives you a good example of bad paint apps vs great paint apps.

Sorry for the crappy pics.

I'll have to wait for awhile until I receive my statue, but it's sheer size and beautiful sculpt would definitely be impressive no doubt... I just hope that the paint apps won't look awkward like the Deinosuchus.

Sorry, let me rephrase that. This is the first piece that I actually thought had a bad paint app. I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't think the others had good paint apps. One thing that really bugs me is the back of the Apato. Prototype pics show a very natural looking design, almost as if there is sunlight filtering down through trees. On my piece, it looks like someone took a paint brush and made blotches. Looks very quick and dirty. :dunno

As I was examining the Apato, I looked over at my Carnotaurus, and saw that it's paint job is exactly how the Apato's should have looked. The blotches on the Carnotaurus look like they're a part of its skin. The Apato's blotches look as if they are painted on it's skin.

Again, don't expect anything like the prototype pics......God, I sound like Atheris666. :slap

Hm, that is unfortunate. What do you think of the paint app, Chris?

Overall, price considered I'm ok with it. I do see what Jeremy means though. It's mainly the spots or markings that are off. In the prototype piece they look to be airbrushed..in the production piece they were made by using a brush. So they look a bit worse without the soft lines and tone.

I love Shane's Apato..but it's 600.00 USD plus build and paint work almost a 1,000.00 wasn't it Jeremy ? This piece was about 300.00, half the price of the kit and about 2/3rds of the size...not bad at all I think.

Kind of funny, since so many previous pieces had that spotty, airbrushed look - though they were usually dark spots. Deinosuchus, Styracosaurus, Protoceratops... they all had that effect, but they couldn't do light airbrushed spots on the dorsal side of this Apatosaurus?

I might actually consider sending it to Martin, except he's working on something else for me at the moment. Top secret. :horror

That's too bad about the paint apps, although it probably won't bother me. My apato is going to be displayed up pretty high so it'll be less noticeable I think.

If we get a 1 out of 8 bad paint apps ration I can live with it. If this is the start of a trend...

The rest of this big girl is airbrushed..so either it was a time saver of they didn't have the skill .

I honestly don't think it's too detracting really. When compared to a piece done by Shane or Steve ( who painted the prototype I bet ) it of course doesn't shine as much. They take more time and individual attention for each piece whereas the SS Apato is factory produced with the nice paint work it has. Getting this girl painted by Shane or Steve would easily add another 2-300.00 to it's price tag. So I'm happy with the quality I got for the price I paid. ;)

A good comparison is the " poop " on the base of the Tupuxuara and how it is hand painted. I'd love to add a couple little pterosaurs riding this Apato's back..that right there would explain the markings. ;D

Dan I had that rather tempting thought myself...to send Martin a Dinosauria piece to repaint..it would def look sweet.. and the cost would prob be worth it.

Sorry for the crappy pics.

This is exactly why I got out of collecting this line from SS. Every piece I got from this line showed up with horrible paint application. I remember on my Parasaurolophus dio the paint on the tail and back was sprayed on so thick that it actually filled in areas of the skin texture. On the other side of the piece their was paint runs down the tail. The blood around the mouth was also applied very sloppy.

I havent been on any of the Dino threads for a while. But now that im following up on a few again, it looks as if nothing has changed.

Sorry to all that are still getting pieces like this, but I think its time to throw in the towel.

Thats because I was right...

If you want the best quality out there, then your right...forget Sideshow and go have a sculptor like Shane and an excellent painter like Steve paint it for you. Keep in mind it will cost you two or three times as much. Of course if you really want a good quality , unique piece..pay a talented sculptor to make you your own based on your own specifications..I know just who to contact...;) ..but it won't be cheap. Depending on the artist , size, ect..your looking at 1500.00+

For 300.00 or so this Apato is pretty darn good. ;D

I wont go on about the QC on these pieces. I think eveything that can be said, has already. I agree for what these things are worth the paint apps on average "ok". However, in my case most of them showed up looking nothing like the proto or "ok"....they were just horrible simple as that.

I would love to know where to get some BIG very detailed pieces of these dinos. I'll pay for quality any day of the week.

Chris

yup the size of mine is impressive and the skin texture is up there with the others, minus the spino. I got number 30 and it arrived safely and yea the paint app seems a tad off and the white splotches are a tad off but overall im happy with it for the price.

Ill post pics in a bit.

Chris

I wouldn't go that far. lol As I said, I am happy with my other pieces, and I still love this piece for the sculpt alone. I think they probably had some breakage issues early on, fixed the situation, and then hurried the paint application. I know most of you are saying it's good for the price, but look at past releases. To me, those were good for the price. I never uttered a word when people were pointing out flaws in the other pieces. That's simply because I never saw those issues with mine. The splotches on this thing are impossible to ignore. Like Chris said, the prototype had them airbrushed on, but the production pieces had them brushed on.

I will say, that the skull exclusive is awesome. I think it's about 1/12 scale. Totally dwarfs the head of my Foulkes Apatosaurus. :rotfl

Probably my least favorite in the line so far, the shelf footprint means precious little to me. It is incredibly bland, honestly.

I have mine displayed on the same shelf with the Allosaurus dio (which is actually one of my absolute favorites), so it kinda looks like the next to get picked off ... I like it that way. :yess:

If I wasn't a completist with this line there would be no reason to own this. :slap
