Just saw the movie last night. I must say that the critics went alittle overboard with talking about the violence. My expetations were that it was going to be the most violent picture I had ever seen and that was simply not the case.

Mel Gibson is a fabulous director and I can't wait to see more of his work. I highly recommend this movie and if you are worried about the violence it is not as bad as it has been made to sound.

What are your thoughts?

Haven't seen it.....I thought the trailer looks great!

I loved Mel's Passion though......I'm hoping to catch this one too!

Yeah, I think that many people under-estimate Mel as a director...A lot of people still think of him as "Martin Riggs..". Not sure when this comes out in Australia...but, I will definitely be catching it at the local cinema.

They say all geniuses are crazy, and with Mel it's probably true. He may not be a genius, but he's a really good director.

I haven't seen Passion but this film made me want to go out and rent it.

With Apocalypto I expected something a little more highbrow, but it's pretty much a straight ahead action pic with some very profound themes. I really well done film all around and the performances he got from this, what I assume, is mostly an amateur cast, were downright amazing.

i hope mel directs for a long time. i love his work. always entertaining.

I really want to see this movie... All of Mel's work is astounding, Braveheart still nearly makes me cry at times. I just wish he would be the one to tackle a film about the year 1066.

I know he could bring life to that story. About William the ******* invading Saxon England with an army of Normans on horseback. The story just has so much to work with and I know that Mel could do it justice.

Or I could just wait until I break into the industry and start pushing the story on everyone I meet.... :lol

I want Mel to make a narley Viking movie.

Really wanna see this one. Never occurred to me that a movie would ever be done about the Maya.

I did not find the violence to be nearly as disturbing as they (the critics) made it out to be. I had a chance to go to a pre-screening a week early, but tickets sold out, so I had to see it last night. Overall, good movie.

The violence is no worse than a standard horror movie like Hostel, only not as gratuitous.

I enjoyed this as well. Critics tried putting it down as "just an action movie" but well... they forgot to mention it's a *really good* action movie. Much more entertaining than I expected. I think a few things were preposterous at the end, but I went with it.

And yeah, this movie is not nearly as violent as some said. Whoever says that obviously hasn't seen any R-rated horror movies released this year. Hostel, the Hills Have Eyes, Slither, TCM: The Beginning, and Saw 3(ESPECIALLY Saw 3) were far more gory and violent.

Yeah, possibly the main reason the media is whining about the violence is because its Mel with all his 'Passion' and DUI theological-rantings baggage. If it was someone else under different circumstances, the press would've probably cut it more slack.

For me, this movie had two things going for it: Gibson directed it, and it's a sweeping historical epic, which is just right up my alley. I felt it didn't have the emotional punch that Braveheart and Passion had, but it was still a very good film. I walked away not only entertained, but also thinking about its themes of self destruction and self indulgence. It certainly sparks my interest to read more about the Mayans and other Indian cultures.

As far as the violence, it wasn't any worse than Braveheart. Passion was more violent than this film.

I would love to see Gibson make a film about the Aztecs and their confrontation with Cortez. That would be interesting.

Speaking of Vikings, Pathfinder was previewed at the beginning of the film at my theater.

True, many were pulled from the town where they shot and had no acting experience, the King was pulled from the nearby docks.
