Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

$429.99!?! What has gotten into Sideshow?!?:lol And the EX is the bearded head plus the hook hand?! Damn, aight, gonna PO:lol

Competition mate. SS not the only one with DC license nowadays :clap

Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

Great price on this. Makes me curious if I can swing him. We shall see. I might be running out of space though now that I decided to collect a new lne.

Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

They only that I expect is that part where he is holding the trident wont have a bad paint application like WW has with her spear, I'm worried about it

Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

I wonder if SS has pushed the current pricing boundary with Spidey and Wolverine PF exclusives still available. Both have meh EX additions and seem over priced.

As for competition, while there might not be a lot of 1/4 scale options. But with Prime1 and XM bringing 1/5, 1/4 and 1/3 scales it's just more choices for the collectors dollar.

I'd take SS comic versions over those XM DC statues. Prime 1 is killing it with the 1/3 though.

Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

Im not sure comparing the XM ones is fair. They aren't "classic" representations of the characters, but i agree that I prefer the SS ones. Prime 1 is doing a great job, its just too bad they're 1/3. Anything beyond 1/4 is just too much space to give up for one piece.

How do you think Prime1 got a DC license and Sideshow magically became their Distributor. That's a partnership, Sideshow Was never going to make 1/3rd scale statues. they Both make money on that deal so while you might see it as competition you're actually just spending money with the same people.

XM as far as I know have a 1/4 scale license to make Batman Statues that can have no influence from the Comics, Movies or Games.

Until a company comes along and can actually sell statues in the same regions and in the same scale as Sideshow with competitive Licensing, and most important competitive pricing, it's not really helping us as collectors.

Re: Aquaman - Premium Format DC Comics - SSC

Great EX ....never thought I'd be interested in an Aquaman statue ....

I only plan to display as the EX. The regular just looks like he stepped out of the 1960s when DC's male heroes were all pretty much the same guy with different colored hair. Would be so cool if they produce Mera and Black Manta. There is still a pretty deep DC catalog that SS can delve into--still haven't seen the Flash/Reverse Flash, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, Atom, Zatanna, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Robin, Nightwing, Elongated Man/Plastic Man, Brainiac, Luthor, John Stewart GL, color Lanterns, Titans, Legion. Maybe it will take DC dealing out a few more 1:4 licenses.

Can't wait to PO this. EX looks great, I'll still be going with clean cut though for my display. Glad to see it's $429, pretty shocked by that. I though at least $480 for sure.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. While both make money on this deal, I'm not sure that Sideshow expected Prime 1's game to be so competitive. I wouldn't be surprised if down the line, Sideshow cuts Prime 1 from distribution in favor of their own statues. Also, I think the reason Prime 1 is fixated on 1/3 scale is because Sideshow currently holds a monopoly on the 1/4 license. Otherwise, I'd say Prime 1 would be making 1/4.

At this point, the price of a premium format is hovering around $430-500 and Prime 1's statue just about doubling it BUT from what we've seen so far, Prime 1's statues seem to be 100% the source material. In recent memory, what really turned me off to Sideshow's DC PFs is that new Batman Arkham Asylum statue. It looks absolutely abysmal. In contrast, Prime 1 is making a bigger Arkham Knight Batman that, in my opinion, is literally perfect, but double the price.

Keep in mind we haven't actually received any production pieces in hand from Prime 1 so it could be a total let down (and everyone will have their own opinion), but if I had to pick between Sideshow's DC Premium Formats and Prime 1's 1/3 Statues, I'd pay the extra for the [seemingly] infinity better accuracy and quality and the scale increase any day.

So I'd say yes, Prime 1 is in direct competition with Sideshow and I speculate it will be good for us collectors in both quality of product and competitive pricing.

You don't find ot strange that Prime1 is only doing video game based 1/3rd statues and TV based versions of Arrow and The Flash at that size? And no' most people want comic book versions of these chararacters which is why Sideshow can sell thousands of 1/4 scale PFs and Prime1 hasn't dented Sideshows sales a bit.

Prime1 is only going to be able to do what Sideshow allows them to do, it was said by both Jerry over PCS and XM studios that Sideshow basically has Control of almost every scale of the DC license which is why they were not allowed to do anything but what they had.

So no, its not even close to direct competetion. Sideshow will continue to controll the comic based versions of the characters in any scale they want and Prime1 will get video game and tv based 1/3rd and some movie based 1/2 scale pieces.

It's not so much what Sideshow will allow them to do, but what DC will allow them to do since Sideshow owns a lot of DC's license. I'm just saying, in my case, Sideshow has lost some business in favor of Prime 1.
