Idk how I feel bout that ending tbh

Finished the season this morning, and had been trying to avoid spoilers though it was impossible not to see concerns about the ending.

I was expecting the worst. However, while it appeared to go the way I feared I was relieved to note the first sign of hope, but missed the others as they were almost subliminal, and I didn't remember the reference to season one:

Hidden detail raises doubt about Jinx’s death

While Jinx’s death is implied, the final Arcane Season 2 scene suggests she might have survived the fall. Firstly, we don’t actually see Jinx dead – she simply disappears into the smoke caused by the explosion.

The scene then cuts forward in time to show Caitlyn and Vi, who are finally together. While Vi sits in front of the fireplace, Cait is busy looking at a blueprint for the Hexgate where Jinx fell into.

She zooms in on the air ducts while holding on to a fragment of the monkey bomb and smiles, suggesting Jinx might have escaped through one of these systems.

Another clue is the final shot, as we see an airship flying through the sky before a brief flash of Jinx’s iconic hallucinations. The airship looks similar to the one Powder saw in Season 1 and said, “One day, I’m gonna ride one of those things.”

Taking to Reddit, an Arcane fan wrote, “Just realized Jinx is not dead, three hints about this: A pink light flashes out of the explosion [and] Caitlyn smiles when she looks at the Clock Tower model, after seeing the air ducts or ventilation where Jinx could flash into!”

They added, “The air balloon at the end is the same one Powder said she wanted to ride someday in Season 1. I saw this mentioned in a YouTube comment, but it made sense because I also remember something similar to that.

“If that is true, the end title card right after this scene would make more sense, because it’s in Jinx’s font style, hinting that she might have left Piltover for another destination. Maybe we’ll see her again next season.”

Trouble is there aren't any more seasons scheduled with these characters, unless the creators relent in the face of it's general popularity. The series was a tour de force from all angles.

The animation in Arcane is beautiful- I rank this just behind Into the Spiderverse 1/2 for quality.

Pacing of Arcane season2 is a tad rushed , but overall I highly recommend- watching season 1 first is a must for context

I honestly think arcane is better than spider verse. That’s just me tho. Spiderverse has that weird stop motion thing going sometimes

I've thought some more about the ending and don't feel as disappointed by it so my thoughts are:

During Ekko's time building the time machine thing Ekko talks about Jayce's specific rune. In this act we also get flashes of different runes (being given to young Jayce.

This rune is important because it's the only rune that can interact with Hextech in a way that allows time travel.

Viktor, after winning, later comes to regret his actions as he realises there's nothing left to gain or learn - his existence has become stagnant and meaningless.

So he then tries to fix the mistakes he made, he tries a bunch of times and fails until this time when he gives this rune to Jayce as a child. This allows Jayce to see what happens to the world if Viktor succeeds and gives him the knowledge to stop him/change his mind.

The loop is now closed.

I'm never really a fan of time travel deus ex machina stuff but it's done here about as well as it can be.

Also Jinx is not dead as there are multiple hints, just as the explosion goes off we see a streak of pink indicating that she uses her shimmer speed to get out of the explosion, and we see Cait looking at schematics of these tunnels showing an escape route that Jinx could use.

We also see an airship fly by which Powder said she's going to ride on day and then there's a glitch flash that indicates Jinx.

I loved it. Thought the ending was epic and that it was a wonderful story. Many folks are complaining that it felt rushed but kinda makes me wonder if that feeling comes from us having to wait for a couple of years and it’s already over with. Once the dust settles and we’ve watched it more than once will it feel as rushed?

Granted, they could have elaborated on some of the personal stories a bit more but that’s a deep wormhole that could last for years worth of additional episodes. All in all I thought it was a wonderful journey through Piltover and Zaun. 👍🏼

Yea I don't think they'd kill the most popular character in the series. I don;t know bout the lore but she seems to be the most popular character I think. I don't know. Is she?

I knew nothing about the world of League of Legends before watching Arcane.

Since the end of season 2 I've watched several videos, picking up a little about Runeterra, the differences between the game and series, and what the ending may mean in terms of future seasons. A few commentators speculated Jinx was heading to Noxus.

WARNING: Spoilers in the video in the first few seconds for anyone not having yet watched the second season.

Some of the videos also showed gameplay, and it's surprising that an arcade style with a viewpoint looking down at little characters doing flashy flashy arcade things could give rise to such an involving animated series. It's the kind of show I'd have expected to arise out of an immersive first person format, or even third person as in The Last of Us.
