Are your collectibles insured?

Seeing the story about the unfortunate dude that had his collection stolen, I am pursuing getting all of my collectibles insured.

My homeowner policy includes $5,000 for comic books, but that's not nearly enough. I do not believe my policy includes collectible statues.

My question to fellow Canadian collectors:

1. If you had your collection appraised (my insurance company requires an appraisal), where did you get it done?

2. Where is the best place to get current valuation of your pieces? I know pretty well what my statues are worth, but how can I "prove" it?
 
I tried looking into insurance a while back but the insurance companies over here just have no idea . One of the disadvantages we have is the culture of collectibles isn't popular so even when you try explaining they look at you funny.
