Asmus website states that it's exclusive to their site. Also, that due to the labor involved, only "500" of the Aragorn heads and "800" new Aragorn figures will be released. So get it while you can.

Ouch, better order it today when I get off of work. I think I missed the Legolas with Troll head. I can't find it on their site anymore. I can only find the standard version.

I think they mentioned on FB that the head is exclusive to the Asmus site. It's my first order directly from Asmus so I'm interested to see how it goes.

Thanks guys.

I got to order this week then. Really like to see one in hand before I order though.

I took the plunge on both. I'm quite happy with my repainted SS Aragorn (with some Asmus updates) but wanted these as well.

So I've got Legolas, Aragorn and the Aragorn noggin pre-ordered from Asmus. May have to trim down the collection of some figures just for space. Never an easy thing to do...

(I'm also contemplating the Mouth of Sauron...)

So the original set wasn't numbered and didn't include a COA?

Hoping that TA parts the Slim out. I'd grab a coat just to have a spare and the boots to see if they're better than the originals

Rooted hair, high forehead, why? It looks like not much else changed besides the body.

Thank you for the feedback,
but i really think the fore head is ok.

Asmus is right. Viggo just has a large forehead. :lol
The paint app also looks better. I hope the production pieces are as good. Now for my local retailer to stock them since buying from Asmus directly is (alas) not an option for me.

The haired version has a great face shape including the forehead, it looks spot on now

So I hate to be a newb, but this is the first Asmus figure I'm considering buying, and I'm wondering how their site works - do they charge the full balance at first, or when it's ready to ship, or on a payment plan like SS?

Thanks guys :)

It's a $20 deposit and the rest before they ship

The forehead definitely looks perfect and the real hair really shows how good the shape of the face always was :clap

Hope you don't mind if I drop a couple suggestions in the box? I know you mentioned the hair is brown in person but it is coming across quite dark with a couple silver highlights in all of the pics.

I don't know if it's possible to achieve this on the large run that you guys are doing, but I think the best custom jobs I've seen on his hair are the ones with a little bit of a waviness to them. The one Cman did a while back is a good example of that. Perfect color and the hair is a little wavy instead of straight:

Just a couple things that stood out to me but already it's a great improvement :)

Forehead looks decent to me, it's the rest of the face that's bad. Looks like a sick dog.

Saw the slim version some days ago on my retailers sites, so came in here to have a look.
I own the previous version, which I found at a discounted price a while ago.
I preferred to have the aci version cause of the rooted hair, but was out of stock everywhere so pulled the trigger on asmus.
I knew that the asmus figure was great (except the hairpiece), wanted my 1st figure from the lotr universe, so bought it.
Was looking for someone to mod the asmus hs as to apply rooted hair,
but I didn't have the time to search and find the right person.
When I found out that a new hs with rooted hair was offered, I just went and preordered it,
cause I really want my asmus figure to shine.
What I want to tell in the end is that asmus should have done rooted hair to their 1st figure,
or at least make the hairpiece correct, as to avoid the conehead effect.
Now all of us who bought the 1st figure and want a correct hs, have to either pay someone to mod the hair,
or now to buy the new expansion hs.
It should be free for all previous purchasers of the 1st figure,
now I am not keen in buying any other asmus figure in the future.
The same was done with kp and the new head they put on sale for conan (which in the end didn't happen but for other reasons).
Now kp has lost me as a customer, more because of the words I exchanged with their owner,
but also for not respecting their customers when we supported them and bought their figures.

I get your frustration, but I think that's a bit harsh because Asmus deserves a lot of credit for doing what they do to fix and improve their releases (free bodies, expansion packs, etc.).

I feel that Hot Toys is the undisputed champion of the 1/6 mass produced world, and I can look at my collection and pick out 20-30 HT sculpts that are pretty less than stellar, that I would love a revised and improved sculpt for. But we don't see HT offering improved replacement sculpts for those figs.

I think Asmus is doing a great thing by offering us options to improve the 4 Haflings, Aragorn and hopefully Gandalf. I agree, it's not the ideal situation for us as collectors, but I'm sure doing this is not the ideal situation for Asmus either. But it is the best and easiest fix for sets that were already released but had room for improvement.

I said it in another thread, and I hope Asmus didn't misunderstand me or take offense. I greatly appreciate their effort and hard work to improve the last 6-7 figures that they've released (I'm ready to buy any and all improved expansions they offer), but I hope that everything from Legolas forward won't need after-release improvements

As above I totally get your frustration, but it shouldn't and couldn't be free. Nobody is forced to buy the figures in the first place, we choose to buy them in whatever state they are in (pre-orders are a different story, but yours wasn't) and that's the end of that transaction.
Offering an expansion pack is a great thing for those of us that want it, but again it's a choice.

Think of it like a car (a whole different price range I know but that's not relevant), manufacturers release newer models every year, but nobody gets them for free.
If this years model comes with a free sat nav but last years didn't, they don't send out a bunch of free sat nav units to previous customers.

Now Asmus has their own factory they can make these expansion packs to bring older figures up to the standards they want their products to be, which is admirable and a great bonus for those of us who choose to upgrade. But as PCK said, hopefully anything from this point forward won't need an upgrade.
Technology/techniques will always improve and figures will mostly look dated at some point but that's normal.
