Nope. That's Asmus. They're making upgraded heads for Aragorn, Merry, Pippin, Frodo and Sam. Aragorn (with rooted hair) is now on sale on their website.

As I understand it, it's both. Whole figures for those who missed out the first time, or an expansion pack of just heads for those who already own the original figures. That's what they're already doing with Aragorn.

I'm pretty behind and just catching up on all that's gone on with this line. Just finding out that these are getting expansion packs too. Great news!

That said I hope that Asmus can right the ship going forward. I'm happy to see that they are willing to offer these upgrades (something that no other company has done thus far). I have a ton of respect and appreciation for their dedication to producing a good product and pleasing their supporters. But this hobby has become outrageously expensive, and I'm not a huge fan of having to pay more for things that should've been included the first time around.

I do think what they're doing for the 4 Hobbits & Aragorn (and hopefully Gandalf soon) is a great move. It's the easiest way to bring these sets that are fantastic from the neck down fully up to top grade. But I'd hate to see it become a habit. Hopefully we'll get a Legolas, Boromir, Gimli, Gollum, and whoever else to follow, that are grade A straight out of the box, with no need to spend more on upgrades.

I understand what you mean, but please forgive me of not second your opinion.

It is like a law of nature in technology/industry, that everything gets better over time.

Thing you see today that is 10/10 may be not even 4 or 5/10 in 5 years.

Personally I think it's a great solution, since technologies do change (or a company buys its own factory/production line!) so improvements can be made. Any company (Asmus or otherwise) will want to put out a figure that everybody is happy with first time. The extra production costs on headsculpts etc is a bit of a gamble financially. Much better to sell all the figures of the initial run so just one set of production costs.

Though saying that, I wouldn't want someone like Hot Toys to take the idea as a way of including less accessories so they can sell them as extras later, that's not so fun!
