That's why Tolkien's son will not give permission for another movie to be made after his dad's book.

They could make a hundred films based on LOTR and HOBBIT and Christopher Tolkien is powerless to do anything about it as those rights ARE NOT controlled or owned by him. And that includes all the material in the Appendices as well.

My guess is they make a young Aragorn movie. They kind of set it up for that at the end of the Hobbit. With the way Jackson adds to the stories he could easily make another trilogy on Aragorn. Gandalf and Legolas could be central characters in it and there are plenty of others that could be thrown in there too. You could even have Bilbo in it.

Didn't Peter Jackson create the character of Tauriel with Evangeline in mind to play her?

Clearly they added a lot into the films. The Hobbit is just standard novel and they stretched it out over 3 long movies.

The length of the film(s) kind become the issue for most...
Personally, I mind the excessive CGi the most...

I believe after the first hobbit movie came out Tolkien's son said something to the effect the Peter Jackson had "eviscerated" his father legacy.

He also wasn't fond of the original trilogy that won 11 oscars. And I believe most people who read the books consider the original trilogy almost as an insult to the books, despite the fact they were very good movies.

Some Tolkein fans have a really giant stick up their....ahem.

I love the books, yes, but I love the movies too, and I wish some people would just relax. If you hate the films, fine. You have that right. Just stop freaking out about it or judging people who do enjoy them.

Ugh.

I read the books years before the films and I love both. Unlike some fans of the book I get that some things that work on paper won't work well on film & vice versa. Yes there were two changes that irked me in the original trilogy but that's why it's called an adaptation. We'll always have the book and now we have the films to enjoy. Jackson & his team pulled off a masterpiece of cinema with the Rings trilogy in my opinion

Me personally I started reading the books when the movies where about to happen, just to know the backgrounds etc.- Later I even wrote a paper about it for school/college, comparison between movie and books focused on the character of Faramir (only him cause it was not to be longer than 20 pages, and he was the only choice I could come up with). - Basically I compeltely agree there with Matner77, you HAVE to have differences. 1st of all because otherwise everybody who read the books will not be surprised or confronted with a new element at all. Sure some people might want it exactly like that, but to be fair a lot of people would find it boring.

Next thing is that you can not copy a book to a movie... books live of detailed descriptions which sometimes take dozens of pages. In a movie it will be only a few seconds... otherwise, if you show a scene or landscape for too long, it would be called "boring".

Not to forget, the movies being really long already, there is no way to put all the nice stuff from the books inside. Could have been 10 hours per movie otherwise. - Then again, I agree that a few things could have been different or better, a few things should have made it to the movie I believe.

Nontheless, the movies (looking at them as movies BASED on a book) are awesome in my opinion. Peter Jackson had certainly one of the most difficult books as base but made very fine movies out of it.

There are differences and differences. Giving a lot of space to a love story that is in the background in the books (Aragorn-Arwen) may be a good choice for balancing the narration on the emotional side. Also I have nothing against the happy ending for the Shire.
On the other side, making Faramir bring the hobbits to Osgiliath mutilates the character of his integrity and elves-dwarves love doesn't make any sense at all.

Most of these hardcore book fans should be grateful for the movies. The books were always extremely popular, but I'm sure the movies brought in a lot more new readers too.

Likeness looks really good and the scuplted+rooted hair seems to be working nicely. Well done Asmus. Thanks for the photo.
