Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

Mildly spoilery comments from Total Film re Hawkeye and Thanos. If you really want to know absolutely nothing don't read.

Missing: Clint Barton. Last seen in *checks Google* Captain America: Civil War. Yep, Hawkeye hasn’t been around for what feels like an age (in MCU terms, anyway). But he’s back in Avengers: Infinity War… right? In an interview with the directors of the third Avengers movie, our sister publication Total Film magazine got to the bottom of the issue as to why Jeremy Renner has been MIA in each of the trailers – and it sounds ominous.

“All will be explained when people see the movie,” says Anthony Russo, when asked about Hawkeye’s continued absence, in a quote that feels me with dread. “It’s all tied into the story.” Seriously? That’s not helping.

Hawkeye is in Avengers: Infinity War though and, as Total Film’s set visit confirms, he’s rocking a snazzy new look, complete with mohawk. Don’t worry, though, his is not the only part that’s been left on the cutting room floor.

“We were considering showing [Thanos’] backstory,” says Anthony Russo, “but ultimately felt it wasn’t necessary for the movie.” While fans of the Mad Titan may be feeling a little sore than we don’t get to see the method behind the madness, we’re still getting an Infinity War “told from his point of view,” which is surely better than any shoehorned origin tale.

And I'll just throw this out....

This wouldn't be so much of an issue if it wasn't for each of these characters coming from completely different genres and stories. Black Panther was a political drama; Thor: Ragnarok was a fast and loose buddy comedy disguised as an action movie; Spider-Man: Homecoming was a high school comedy; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was a somewhat serious look at family dynamics through a surrogate family of quip snapping heroes; Doctor Strange focused on a man having a spiritual journey and accepting a world beyond his own; Civil War was a serious moral conflict that resulted in shattered friendships and alliances; and Age of Ultron was a massive battle against a villain that hurt each Avenger on a personal level.

Individually, these are great ideas for movies. The problem comes from when you try and mash all of these different genres into one movie. In theory, it makes sense. These are superheroes and superhero team-ups happen all of the time, so why not just throw them all together and see what happens? The issue comes when you try and mesh together multiple groups of heroes to tell a story that they shouldn't be a part of. One just needs to look at recent event comics like Civil War II and Infinite Crisis where established characters are acting out of character to suit the needs of the story. That's what happens when you have different writers writing the same characters in different movies but they're in the same universe. Inconsistencies abound and you're left scratching your head as to why the hell Spider-Man, who spent his solo movie trying to go out with his high school crush, is the first person to stand up to Thanos and his invasion and isn't batting an eye at the carnage around him.

As the whinging and whining about IW begins - and am sure I'll have my own:monkey3 - just sayin' tho I don't see the problem here. IMO that's kind of the point - this fragmented and very different group of characters reacting to threat. That characters like Peter SHOULDN'T be facing a being like Thanos and Cap SHOULDN'T have to live under the radar etc. Unless you have characters that never change, never evolve, never have to behave in ways they never did before. The author goes on to mention Ultron but IMO Ultron's problem wasn't that it wasn't a cohesive story.

In the Russos I trust.

Hmm. So I assume they're not showing the stuff in the new trailer with the backstory of...

Thanos on his home world and little Gamora? Unless of course that scene is told through her and not necessarily his backstory, but still, I dont think it's a good idea not to include one for big bad Thanos.

And while I'm in the dark when it comes to alot of source material, is it possible Hawkeye could be a Skrull? I don't know much about them (Samuel L. Jackson may have accidentally alluded to Fury being one in an Instagram pic weeks back), but I know there's talk of them being introduced eventually.

Well it has been confirmed that in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie that the Skrulls will be included. The film takes place before all the MCU movies that have come before. So, that would lead one to believe the Skrulls are a part of the MCU.

Nah, his point is sound and 100% correct.
But it's not even the first time for MCU to have zero consistency between movies so it's all good.

IM3 didn't work because it tried to be a comedy while divin' into serious character depths.
Thor 2 didn't work because it tried to be a grouded comedy which ruined fantastical elements that made the first one enjoyable.
AoU didn't work because it made no sense to have Tony Stark go full mad scientist and create super-AI in secret after gettin' rid of suit dependency.
CW didn't work as a Captain America solo film because they just wanted to fast track to IF.
SMH didn't work as a sequel to CW because it was a don't-do-everything-SONY-did-for-the-past-15-years checkbox origins movie.
etc, etc, etc...

I for one am glad Peter wears Iron Spider suit and goes into space.
That way I can completely delete horrible SMH from my memory and pretend as if nothing happened between CW and IF.

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

I just thought of something, regarding the Doctor Strange cameo in Ragnarok.

There’s long been a theory that Loki will use the Tesseract to send Hulk to Earth to warn everyone. I wonder if they included Doctor Strange in Ragnarok less as a fan service cameo but to actually establish that Thor and Loki would know about Doctor Strange and where the Sanctum Sanctorum is to send Banner to in Infinity War.

That would be a cool detail, and the MCU is definitely known for attention to detail.

"We’ve just seen 30 mins of #AvengersInfinityWar. Can’t say too much but it’s way ambitious, it’ll switch tones between different groups (the Guardians sequence had a very different, look, feel and soundtrack to the New York scenes) and it’s going to be funny. Still no Hawkeye!"

You know how Youtubers put their facial expressions on their movie review thumbnails I can’t wait to see the faces they’re going to use for their IW reviews lol

Probably all will be the same shocked expression.

Except Grace all her expressions look like she’s being asked to have sex in a room full of action figures.

Well it makes sense considering that she's about as attractive as one... Hell even some of my action figures are more bangable than her.

Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)

So BW goes from killing invasion aliens with hand guns to defeating Titans with tasers and a piece of rebar?

Since the most powerful thing in the universe is a vj it makes perfect sense why her scissor spin is so deadly you ever see how it ends with a vj face plant, a mouth full of ******! :horror

I hope Thanos has an anti ****** stone on that glove of his or it will be lights out for ole purple head when she mounts his head.
