Re: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - (April 27, 2018)
Just got back from seeing it, so potential spoilers - Overall I think I really liked it - probably would have liked it more but I'm in a bit of a bad space so that's what I'm chalking it down to. I think there's some areas where you could easily pick it apart if you put as much scrutiny to it as other comic book films get. But in the end it was just really well done, the action for the most part was great, I don't think quite as on par with TWS, but that's down to so much going on at once, and it does suffer a bit from not being quite sure how to match heroes' power levels, especially in regards to prior solo films and Avengers films. But it mostly gets it done well.
I think it punches a few surprises, I ****ing loved the opening. The film definitely serves some characters better than others - it has a lot of great action, the CG for the most part is incredible, War Machine looked really bad and some other areas were a bit dodgy but considering how much there was it still stands up. I think Thanos was handled extremely well. I'm just not entirely sure though that I was convinced by the ending, I won't go into too much specifics but it seems pretty clear that all the weight that was attached to the majority of the ending will be undone at the beginning of the next film, it was just short of a certain character giving a knowing wink to the audience as if to say don't worry, this will be sorted, it's part of my plan. I think now it's problematic that there's so much magic and other powers in the world that it starts to be its undoing.
However in the end it was really good, unlike the previous Avengers films, it dealt better with a serious tone mixed with humour than the prior ones. And it was really great seeing new characters interact.
