I don't understand why they don't just bring back the originals to the screen as rereleases, not remakes.

They should actually do that with a lot of old films going to DVD.

Anytime a new DVD of a classic comes out, have a theater only release for like 2 weeks before its available at stores.

That way people can experience these old flicks on the big screen.

most likely not many would go see them except for those who:

remember who these actors are
movie buffs
got no life.

Aren't classic DVD issues for movie buffs anyway?

I mean, it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to distribute DVDs to theaters and they wouldn't even have to advertise much more than they already do for DVD releases. Instead of the ad saying "Own it on August 21st" it would just say "See it in theaters August 7th then own it August 21st".

Then for the theater instead of showing 100 showings of "Superbad" or some such nonsense over 2 weeks they throw in maybe 10-20 showings of a classic.

Unless its a Friday or Saturday night I never see more than 10 people in a theater anyway. I'm pretty sure they'd do no harm if they showed a classic. Those 10 people seeing "Superbad" at 5:30pm can easily join the other 10 seeing it at 7:30.

distribute DVD to theatre? what do you mean by that?

personally, with the admission charge going up and up every year, I really dont see how people (even movie buffs) would be motivated to spent the $$$ on admission and then go buy a DVD. Unless they (hollywood) do something like go watch a classic in the theatre for $15, and when you leave, you get the DVD. (DVD is included in the price of the admission)

Thats a pretty clever idea of including the DVD with admission.

I for one would definately see certain classic movies in the theater even if I could just go buy the DVD. I have a decent size TV, 42" and a good sound system, but nothing compares to seeing epics on the truly "big screen".

I would love to see a movie like Erroll Flynn's classic "Robin Hood" on the big screen rather than another remake with someone like Brad Pitt.
