Ok so as requested here is the progress and recipe for my turkey day! I decided to have friends over today for our Thanksgiving since most are with family on Thursday. So enjoy! I will be following up throughout the day.
So yesterday at 9:00am I decided to "brine" the turkey. What is that you ask? It is a process used to make the turkey all the more juicy when done. The following is what you need.
-19ilb Turkey
-Big stock pot
-2 1/2 cups Burboun "whiskey"
-2 cups Salt
-1 cup Brown Suger
-2 gallons of water
Mix all of the above well in the large stock pot. I prefer to use a fresh turkey. So pull all the stuff out and pat it down dry. Put it in the mixture and seal tightly with wrap and put the lid on it. You can also use a cleaned out cooler. It is usually cold here so I will put the whole thing outside in the shed. It needs to brine for 18 to 36 hours.
Next "once brined" rinse the turkey off again and pat dry. Season with any spices. I use a little salt, pepper, and parsley flakes. Put the turkey in your roasting pan Cover with foil. You will be taking the foil off when the turkey is about 2 thirds the way cooked to brown the top. Insert to a preheated 325 degree oven. It will need to cook about 15 to 20 minutes a pound.
Here is the first shot pre oven.
