Two weeks ago, Man of Steel star Michael Shannon made a strange reveal about the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, telling Vulture: “In the sequel I have flippers instead of hands.”

Now in an interview with The Daily Beast, Shannon says he made up this bit of information.

“Somebody was asking me about this in New York and I made up some ridiculous bulls**t answer about how my character Zod has flippers, and this went viral on the Internet or something and people have been asking me about that. That is so obviously a complete bulls**t story, right? But people took it seriously.”

Secrecy is a big tool for studios and filmmakers on these gigantic tent-pole movies. We’ve seen it in action with Marvel Studios and all of their films, WB’s Man of Steel, and most notably with J.J. Abrams and the cast of Star Trek Into Darkness; half-truths and misleading quotes are simply a part of the promotional game now. This raises a question, however. Which time was it that Michael Shannon “made up some ridiculous bullsh**?” Is he in fact trying to preserve a secret from the upcoming film by saying he made up the initial quote or did he really make up a story about being trapped in a porta potty, and if so, why?

Shannon did go on to talk about his time on the set of “Dawn of Justice,” saying he didn’t put on a costume but simply provided voice over work.

“The thing about the whole Krypton universe, apparently, is that even when you destroy them, there are ghosts. The first [film], Jor-El is there even though he’s been dead for lord knows how long…I went over and did some voice-over stuff because it’s like that ghost thing. But I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that. I get very nervous.”

was it ever revealed if michael shannon played doomsday? i have searched and haven't heard anything about his story about having flipper hands.

It was true, he went out and said it, there was even video or audio IIRC but they made him back pedal and he ended up playing it as a joke.

I knew he was full of it though. Even before that there were rumors of DD losing a hand, too much of a coincidence.

But I don't know if he played DD, doesn't seem like it was necessary, I do know they made a full body cast to make his prop corpse to use in the genesis chamber.

I changed MCU to Hamburger. :lol

I make this killer garlic sauce that looks like Mashed Potatoes when i'm done with it (see middle bowl).

3 ingrediants: Elephant Garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I didn't know Olives liked Comic Books) and Salt.

You literally dunk the vegetables and chicken into the sauce!

God Damn Jye :horror: your BBQs must be epic.

I'm not in the habit of taking many pics of anything, otherwise I'd share an apple pie I baked last week.

Oh yeah, add apple pie to my list :lol my favorite desert hands down.

God damn, that pie looks gorgeous :thud:

Our BBQ are actually pretty epic, ie; lots of booze! :lol

Hot apple pies with ice cream are also good.

Go look at my pie again! :panic:

but we never found out which lie was actually true. first he says he has flipper hands which leads everyone to think doomsday is in the movie, then in another interview he says he did voice over work, which everyone thought was a lie to cover him spilling that he was doomsday. i assumed after the movie came out some behind the scenes stuff would surface of michael shannon on set in a motion capture suit but no one has followed up on it.

as for the body cast they just used michael shannons head cast from man of steel and hired a model to do the nude zod body cast.

I have no idea, my guess is he did some stuff that didn't make the cut, after all there was over 4 hours of uncut movie.

Like they probably tried to composite mocap and CGI, hence the flipper hand, but decided to go all CGI in the end or something.

Oh really? I thought it was all Shannon, it looked great though, I had no idea it was a prop until they said it.
