Best Asmus Middle Earth 1/6 Scale Figure

My friend, if you can somehow eliminate that expense, do it. The sooner, the better. About 20 years ago I rented a storage unit for several years and after finally leaving it, I found out that i could have purchased what was stored several times over with the money that had been spent. Rather than store the empty boxes, toss them or even sell them on Ebay and at least move to a smaller and cheaper unit.

I wish we could! The real problem is that the house we're renting is crazy small and the storage unit is also full of other stuff we use pretty regularly. What we need is to move to a bigger house. We were planning to start looking for a place to actually buy, but the pandemic craziness and uncertainty has pushed everything further down the road a few years at least.

But honestly, what I need to do is to sell off part of the collection, not just the boxes. But that prospect is almost as daunting as buying a house!

I too am moving soon and just tried to downsize on the collection a bit. The daunting part is always the "what if I want this", but you'll find that if you haven't looked at, displayed, or thought of it in much over a year, you won't miss it.

I agree that any collecting is a compulsive action, but its fun and satisfying too! I keep all the art boxs behind doors under my display space. If the need to sell them in future pops up, condition to another collector is everything, and they would be willing to pay a higher price hopefully!
And obviously selling a line of figures when there is hype would go a long way too.

What about storing them in an attic or loft storage space in the garage (if options are available?) or store them on a bookshelf ?
Collapsing them may be easiest way.

I think if you?re displaying it and not purchasing them only for resell, you can lose a few inserts - worst case is there?s no plastic insert but the box with the artwork is still present if you do sell it later on.

I've already taken over part of the garage with my boxes! What I think I am going to do soon-ish, is have a mini-purge on my collection and sell off some pieces that I am not so attached to (not my LOTR stuff though - I could never part with that!!) to make a bit of space and then like you say, lose some of the inserts and collapse 'em - hopefully that will then give me a bit of space.

Good lesson. They are not worth the extra $5 you MIGHT be able to add... and usually only create more questions about dents, creases, etc...

Last time I moved, in 2016, I purged most all my Sideshow inner trays -- but folded and kept the art boxes. They stack easily and take up hardly any space. If someone in the future wants the art box for the art, I'll have it.

I've held on to all my HT boxes so far. But they are now becoming an issue like the Sideshow boxes were from 2006-2016. At some point, I will have to vacate many of the HT boxes in the same way.

I'll keep the DX boxes only. Or those that are like a DX, like the Jyn Erso box.

Mouth of sauron is very complete in my opinion (slim). Gimli is almost perfect but the chainmail is a weak point. Grishnahk is also very well done, with some of the cloth goods being a bit fragile.

Just unboxed Bilbo and while Thorin is still my current number one with Boromir at number two...I am pleasantly surprised with how amazing Bilbo turned out. The pictures do not do it justice at all. This figure is probably my number three! Looks amazing posed next to Thorin!

Just received and unboxed my slim Mouth of Sauron and wow!!!! Asmus has done it again! My pick for best figure gets tougher and tougher! The shelf presence on this one is something else! Once again the pictures, as well taken as they are, do not do this piece justice. Something about this one in person is just spectacular. So top 3 is now definitely 1) Thorin 2) Boromir (rooted) 3) Mouth of Sauron.

As I am just beginning to build my Asmus LOTR collection and am still mapping out which figures to track down, older versus newer...I am curious as to what the general consensus is around the best figure released so far...
It looks like later this year that honor will more than likely go to Crown Series Gandalf or maybe Galadriel will end up being a spoiler...but of the currently released figures what is the high point?
If you had to showcase one figure to demonstrate to someone the heights that Asmus has so far reached with this line...which one would it be?

For me it's Gimli and Thorin.
P.S. I'm hunting now for - Morgul Lord an Nazgul, they are looks amazing...

Gimli has taken the top spot for me. Just a perfect figure, out of the box.

Second place is tough but I lean towards Boromir.

I really want to like Boromir but the hair color on the rooted version makes me very hesitant. People must also like the sculpted version because all I see for sale are the rooted Boromirs.

Definitely. The chain mail just peaks through in a few places. It's also not that prominent to me. At least now that I have him finally on display.

Prior to receiving my Gimli, I had picked up a very good replica of chain mail in 1/6 to replace his but ended up not using it (yet). I may swap it out in the future but it is not a must-do for me, at this time.

Gimli just out of the box looked amazing and displays great. The hair on Boromir looked off to me when I got him and after a bit of trimming he looked much better. I don't think the hair colour is that far off from the movie. His hair colour really depends on the lighting. Watch the movie and his hair goes from almost blonde in some scenes to brown in others and everything in between.

My Gimli is on the way so I look forward to seeing where it ranks for me...after enjoying my newest additions for a week or so my slim Mouth of Sauron has unexpectedly raced into my Number One spot surpassing Thorin and Boromir. I did not expect that but I cannot take my eyes off that figure! So amazing in person!

It is a great figure!
But if you ever get the opportunity to acquire the original MOS & Steed (or even just the Steed), I highly recommend doing so. The steed elevates an already awesome figure to an even greater level.
The “slim” MOS is a definite improvement over the original figure, though; even though I own the original, I bought the “slim” figure, and use it in my display with the steed.

It is a great figure!

The ?slim? MOS is a definite improvement over the original figure, though; even though I own the original, I bought the ?slim? figure, and use it in my display with the steed.

I wrestled with it and almost could not bring myself to buy the figure without the horse...but the figure is so generously priced and on the secondary market seems to go no lower than $800-$1200. The figure is $145 so best case scenario that makes it a $655 horse. That snapped me out of it and made me decide to live without the horse. I will just accept it as my punishment for coming to the line late
I am also curious as to what the differences are though...I actually thought it was just the same figure without the horse?

The main difference is the clothing is dirtied up on the “slim”. There are also some subtle differences in the paint apps on the faces, the clothing hues, and the body on the original release is flesh toned, whereas with the “slim” it’s a more ghastly white. Admittedly, not much of the body shows given the layers of costume.
