From an email I received from Best Buy

Because you're a valued Best Buy® customer, I want to personally tell you about a program we're launching during the "big game" this Sunday, Feb. 6. It's called the Buy Back Program and we're announcing it in a commercial during the third quarter, with stars like Justin Bieber and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

Buy Back is essentially "future-proofing" your technology. You purchase the technology you want today, and we'll buy it back at a set price when you're ready to upgrade to something new. You'll know upfront what your gear will be worth, and you can conveniently redeem your Buy Back at our stores and immediately receive a Best Buy Gift Card.

You already enjoy Reward Zone® benefits, and I hope you consider the advantages that Buy Back can provide. We're excited to introduce it in a big way on "big game" day. Be sure to tune in and learn more.

Thank you—we sincerely appreciate your business,

I think they were doing something similar with ipods earlier. I like the idea that the value would be known ahead of time, though I can see condition of the units playing a part (or will they just not accept less than stellar conditioned items?). Honestly, I don't see this program working very well. Where will Best Buy sell the used items? Technology loses value so quickly, I don't see how they can predict the value of a big screen tv unless they really lowball the offer. Anyway sounds interesting I guess. More info in the next few days.

They're going all out, aren't they? :lol

I expect lowballing as well, similar to how Amazon will accept movie and videogame trade-ins for giftcards being a very small percentage of the retail price.

I have done this with games and it takes a little longer but worked great and better price then gamestop.

It will be just like trading in a used car. You would be better off selling it outright and make more money off of it than you would by trading it in.

Yeah but sometimes its worth the loss to not to deal with buyers

Yeah, I know I could get more for games on eBay or somewhere else, but the laziness of not wanting to deal with that is probably how Gamestop stays in business.

But after trading in then buying back a couple games I really wanted to play again (Bully, for one), I realized it's probably not worth it to get a little trade in, and just have a bigger library. Unless it's a game I flat out didn't like, but I haven't had that yet with this generation of consoles.

They've actually been doing this for quite some time:

It might be profitable for them but rest assured they will offer less than what the electronics are worth. Just like Gamestop

Well, as they should really. They in turn have to sell it again. They are just offering a service.

Just for ____s and giggles I checked what I would get for my 19" Sony computer monitor in good condition with cables. $43.00

A lot of stuff just get recycled. But it's gauranteed money going back to store and they probaly get a tax break for recycling what ever they don't resell.

They have a recycling program as well. I've used it quite often. You don't get anything for the items, but it's better than having them end up in a landfill.
