Best Lightsaber Duel of the Saga

I voted for ROTJ Luke vs Vader not because it was the most spectacular, but because it was the most powerful and important duel of the saga. It lead to the defeat of Vader (the son surpassed the father) and the end of the Emperor's tyranny (the prophecy was finally fulfilled and balance was restored to the Force).

My answer to this one is a little biased because I'm a huge Yoda Fanboy. When I first saw the little one pull out that lightsaber and whip on the Count, that scene became my favorite in the PT and thus my favorite lightsaber duel. Coming in a close 2nd is Obi-Wan/Anakin RotS.

Yeah, that is by far the best Dio they made and that's my #1 saber battle as well... although Anakin / Obi is a very close 2nd.

Agreed, I cast my vote awhile back and it was for much the same reasons. While there are certainly more dazzling duels they don't carry nearly the same emotional response as ROTJ for me; the music from ROTJ is also my favorite of the saga.

As for "important to the film", I voted for Maul vs Kenobi & Jinn.

That fight saved the film from further embarrassment. It was like, "ok, this is one meh film but that fight was too cool!"

The ESB and RotJ duels were definitley the most emotional for me.

The RotS duel was anti-climatic. We knew the outcome beforehand, and I couldn't wait for Obi-Wan to take out that whinny Anakin.

As much as I hate the prequels...the Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Maul duel is the best...the music..Maul...the whole thing made that movie bearable.

I was nice to finally see what the great Jedi Master Yoda can do, and if was awesome, easily the best Duel of the saga. Who knew Yoda was that Badass.

Both these duels had more real emotion in them than anything in the prequal triology...maybe except Obi Wan vs Darth Maul

... nah, I picked Jedi. Definitely the best.

It's interesting that the OT duels aren't faring so well in this poll...they all had there moments too (ESB Luke/Vader almost poked it's way to the lead for me here) but after watching AOTC & ROTS and seeing how precarious this friendship borne out of a vow to a dying man and necessity to the Jedi was and how that finally towards the end forged itself into a genuine partnership based on mutual caring, trust & respect...it just gave an edge to ROTS. Yes, the "lava surfing" and effects were just over the top, but when it finally ended with those cries of "I hate you!" & "You were the chosen one..."...it truly became the duel of the saga....at least for me.

It's to be expected, the OT duels aren't as flashy as the prequel ones. Not saying that's why you or anyone else in particular chose them - they certainly have their merits, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy them also - but I'm sure the prequel choices have a leg up because of that, with some people anyway.

AOTC - Obi-Wan Kenobi Anakin Skywalker & Yoda vs. Count Dooku (obi and ani get schooled , ani swings 2 sabers for like a second-LAME)


AOTC - Yoda vs. Count Dooku (fun but 15 seconds of yoda flipping around doe NOT make a saber duel)

ROTS - Mace Windu vs. Chancellor Palpatine (underrated actually, but maybe its just good because mace actually fought rather than fell over like the other jedi he was with)


ROTS - Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skywalker (should have been the best duel but its just going so fast and with so much lava around ya cant appreaciate it, if played at half speed prob easily the best most technical duel)

ROTJ - Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader (i do love when luke starts teeing off on vader as he totally loses it)

ROTS - Yoda vs. Darth Sidious (fun but yoda gives up...like a punk...defeated?)
