Thats right the Stanley Cup Playoffs have started.

What a start, a double overtime and a quadruple over time game.
Its no wonder that this is considered to be the hardest championship to win.

YOU SIR EFF'ING RULE! Finally a freak that appreciates hockey. btw I watched that entire Canucks/Stars game. The goaltending in that game was phenomenal! Vancouver had no business being in that game, and they won't make it very far in these playoffs if Roberto Luongo has to constantly bail them out. It'll be too much wear and tear on him. For the longest time it was only the Sedin line that did anything. Their shifts were the only ones that left a positive impression on me. What surprised me even more was how elusive Jeff Cowan was around the Dallas net! 10 points in his last 15 games after going without a single point in his first 45. Now looking like one of the better forwards out there lastnight and this past morning... someone sure slipped something good into his cereal.

I am a bit pissy at the fact that Sidney Crosby's goal was called off. Stupid officiating had dismissed the goal after review because it was kicked in with his skate, yet how many players have done that before and the goal stilll counted, even after it was reviewed extensively for 2 hours?! A goal stays as counted as long as the act wasn't premeditated. There was really no proof that indicated that. It looked very natural...in any case had Pittsburgh been rewarded that goal it would have been a 4-2 game and put the Penguins back into the game. However, they then fell 5-1, and after that it was pretty much over.

Sorry for going on but I have been a Penguins fan ever since the days that Mario Lemieux and Kevin Stevens were that awesome 1-2 combo! To see my Penguins actually make the playoffs after a 5 year hiatus is something special. I was just hoping for a more welcoming outcome.

On a ending note; Who's taking Lord Stanley's Cup home this year? I predict either a Buffalo/Nashville or Buffalo/Detroit Final, with Buffalo coming out on top as first time Cup champs!

GIT OUT'R HERRE WIT DAT KINDA ADD'TOOD!

P.S. Congratulations on reaching 500 posts! :)

Go DETROIT!! Been a fan since the early 80's. Calgary will be a tough series but I think the Wings can take 'em down!

HOCKEY RULES!!!!!

I'm a DEVILS fan and a overall NHL fan as well, I have to admit that it is good to see the Pens in the Playoffs, especially Crosby, that kid is Dyanamic!

Yesterday's game was great. This is the time of year that sleep is hard to come by with all these OT games! But I love it!

I agree with Eli that Detroit might be in the Finals, they just have to get out of that first round slump. I think that Devils might get far, they might not have too much punch, but Broduer might be able to carry them.

DarthRazz, look at my name and see if you can add 2 + 2.

hehe

btw Marty Brodeur my all-time favorite goalie, simply because by the time he retires nobody will be able to touch him! Durability wise, puck control wise, and plain out clutch wise, best goalie in the game... PERIOD! :rock

My poor Washington Capitals suck and missed the playoffs yet again so now I am just rooting against the Pens!

Hockey is the best sport in the world......Hopefully Gart Bettman doesn't keep trying to destroy the NHL. Stupid new rules, stupid new sweaters next year....ugh.

Just Noticed!

Marty will go down as the best of all-time by the time it's all said and Done!

haha Capitals blow! Hey Caps fan, remember all those times when the Caps led a playoff series 3-1 and always blew it to the Pens in seven? 92 and 96 I believe those years were. Good times, eh?! :chew

Sidney Crosby > Alex Ovechkin

The Avs didnt make it, and now I have to listen to all the fair weather friends of the Ducks go on and on. Come one Wild beat the Ducks.

Brodeur is my second or third favorite goalie, its tight between him and Cujo. #1 is easy Roy.

Pffft! Brodeur never let up 9 goals in a single game or quit on his Devils. Plus, Brodeur doesn't always throw fits...and we all know that Marty will soon own all of Patrick Roy's records, along with Terry Sawchuk's SO record!

btw How eff'ing awesome is that Joe Sakic?! Nothing more than a 120 point season, which doesn't touch the likes of 99, 66, or that other 19 (Steve Yzerman) biggest seasons, but 100 points at age 37....none of the 3 aforementioned players have accomplished such a feat. Freaking amazing! Only Gordie Howe at age 41, was older than Sakic when he recorded his last 100 point season!

The Caps have done it against other teams besides the Pens. Pittsburgh is lucky then even get to keep their team.

Secondary assist king Sidney Crosby is a great player, but I'd rather have Ovechkin. Better goal scorer, more physical. I like his overall game more and that's not because I am a Caps fan. They are both great players and the faces of the NHL. The Caps just need to build around Ovechkin more and sign some veteran players this offseason.

Roy is the best goalie in the last 20 years. Marty is 2nd right now.

I dont see Brodeur touching a few of his records. He needs 60 Playoff wins to top All time playoff wins. Also I don't forsee him getting two Conn Smythes either.

Yeah Sakis is the man, thank god we have resigned him, I couldn't stand to see him in another sweater now.

Yeah, my Avs didn't make it. Ah well we're young and will only get better. I would root for the Pens if they didn't use Kansas City to get a good deal out of Pitt.

I think, like most people would agree, an Olympic Gold medal is much bigger than two Conn Smythes. Also note, that Brodeur is 34 and still has plenty of hockey left. Time will tell if Brodeur gets those Conn Smythes or not, and those 60 other wins. Remember, New Jersey has been to the dance 4 times in the past decade, and has captured 3 Cups in that time frame. It can happen!

Also, Crosby secondary assist leader?! lol A point is a point, and Crosby creates a lot of scoring chances and is a BIG reason why the Penguins are even in the playoffs! While I seen him get a lot of goals and first assists, if you wanna use the moot argument that he's the king of secondary assists, without those, the Pens wouldn't have had the 1st assist and the goal that followed those two assists. So he was still a factor on 120 Pittsburgh Penguins goals which is a lot more than I can say for Alex Ovechkin's 92. Also, lets not forget that Crosby is the youngest player to ever record 100 points as an NHLer and the youngest to 200 as well. Something Ovechkin will never have on Crosby, like Brodeur's Olympic Gold Medal, to Roy's 4th place finish at the 98' Nagano Games. And the fact that Crosby is 19 to Ovechkin at 21, with nearly a 30 point gap in production between them speaks volumns to a guy like Sidney. He's ahead of Ovechkin in development, and he's a bloody teenager. When the dust settles and both players retire, I have a feeling that Crosby will have had the more dominate history.

Then again, that is an argument better suited for time. Only time will tell who'll be the much better player in their respective careers, but right now I am with Sid the Kid!

Oh I love this.. hockey banter! You guys rock! Finally fans who appreciate the game on these forums! Oh happy day! :blissy

Imagine that, a Pens fan is with Sidney Crosby and a Caps fan is with Alex Ovechkin....who would have thunk that?

And yes, I do use the secondary assist percentage as an argument because it's valid. I saw the numbers and of Crosby's assist numbers he was close to a 50% mark primary assists vs secondary assists. Ovechkin had 70+% primary assists.

Crosby has other playmakers to pass to. Ovechkin does not. That's a hard point to argue no?

I am not saying the Crosby sucks because that would be a stupid statement. As for Crosby having something on Ovechkin for being the youngest player to score 100 points. Ok, the NHL was locked out the year Ovechkin was drafted and there is also the when your b-day falls as to when you can be drafted.

You can try to pimp Crosby OVER Ovechkin all you like. You're a Pens fan so I'd expect nothing less. I am saying htey are both great. Ovechkin is the better goal scorer and Crosby the better playmaker. Crosby will always get more assists and Ovechkin will always score more goals.

The Pens are not in the playoffs due to Crosby alone. They also have other talent and veteran leadership which the Caps lack. Washington says they plan to be very aggressive this off-season going after a # 1 center and defensemen. We also have Backstrom coming over next year.

Both the Pens and Caps have a bright future with young talent.
