Woah! Look at the immense amount of detail in that sculpt, BCS is going to hit a homerun with this figure.

I really can't wait for this guy! But man, I wish they'd find a way to make this more affordable for US customers.

:goodpost:

The exclusivity just makes these too pricey for me. I only bit the bullet for Tom because he's my favorite.

'Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine...'

EDIT: Amazing!

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - The First Doctor Figure

We already had a thread for this here. Maybe a merge, mods?

That said, I hope they hit a home run on the paint, the quality of this sculpt deserves it.

The detail is insane on this. I'm actually looking forward to it more that I have the other three than I did before. Looking behind this pic is that a new Matt Smith sculpt? Looks more along Series 7 than the previous...

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - The First Doctor Figure

I've always felt that BCS couldn't nail the quality for me that I was looking for. I'm used to Hot Toys level and when I really wanted a Matt Smith and the Sherlock figures I just could not justify it. The sculpts looked great unpainted but the final product was lacking and pretty expensive for my taste. They just looked way more like a doll to me than the HT ones.

"Always" as in the last 2 years?

That's not the point though. Doesn't matter how long a company has been around, it comes down to moments where I was looking for it and came across their products and for me the final result just didn't do it.

Was the point really that you felt the need for congratulating yourself for having such exquisite standards? There are a lot of companies out there making good work. They can't all be Hot Toys but believe it or not there are people who care more about the license than being Hot Toys fanboys. Enjoy your limited collection of Iron Man stuff.

It's personal taste, isn't it - if that's how you feel then you can't be 'wrong' but the sales figures speak for themselves. Personally i don't see that much of a difference between HT and BCS, which is astonishing when you consider BCS have made less than 1 per cent of the amount of figures that HT have. Besides, I'm a Doctor Who and Sherlock fan, and I know that I'd wait forever for anyone else to do what BCS are doing. I'll look forward to seeing how their products evolve and improve, which, (rooted hair Amy aside) they have continued to do.

But please, don't feel threads like these are a fan club where you can't express constructive criticism. It's always good to hear another view.

Thanks Cap, the one thing I was not going for was being called a fanboy, as I am not. I was indeed just stating my personal feeling about what I had seen so far. I would love to have a 1/6th of Sherlock and Watson or the 10th or 11th doctor. When I looked at the sculpts on Deviantart I was so excited about them and couldn't wait. Sadly when I looked at the pictures BCS posted I just couldn't justify it :(

That doesn't mean of course that I don't understand that other people would be more interested in them. I don't believe in fanboy behaviour as I firmly believe it's about what someone likes and is willing to spend on it.

What would be interesting is if someone who currently owns a lot of Hot Toys figures would be kind enough to do some side by side comparisons of those head sculpts - say the ten 'best' or most widely admired - with BCS heads in glorious high definition so those of us who sold their Hot Toys figures off a while ago can compare the heads. A set of decent pictures should help the discussion. To me, when I've recently looked at HT figures in Forbidden Planet, they haven't really appealed - I find the heads too small, the paint jobs too dark, and I don't see that HT are noticeably far ahead. But maybe a side by side comparison in good natural light would alter my opinion.

Btw, I'm happy to say I'm a BCS fanboy! That's not to say I can't make constructive criticisms of their product - like the stubble on Ten being a little strong, which is something I believe they're working to correct on future releases - but on the whole I love what they do so much that I can cut them a little slack when it's not quite perfect. I appreciate reading a more objective perspective though.

Someone said here a while back that Trevor's sculpts always look fantastic before they're painted but can look cartoony afterwards. That was my initial impression of Sherlock but after Gregg posted a new photo on FB my opinion changed - I was blown away. It'll be very interesting to see the production pieces, preferably captured on their stand at Birmingham, as somehow pictures like that always give a better impression to me of how it'll look on my shelf.

I just got the Titan #10 bust in and although I've loved all the Titan busts, I have to say that the BCS #10 sculpt and paint is far, far superior.

I have most every Hot Toys figure and I'd say that Matt and Tom are up there with the best of them in terms of sculpt and paint.

From the BCS Fan Page on Facebook, I might add. ;)
It does look gorgeous. I can't wait for it.
