Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

BCS has the estimated ship date set for September to November. I hope that we see this next month as I've finally finished the payments on my set, but it probably won't ship until at least October. The excitement is killing me! :lol

I was thinking Christmas... but glad to know it might be earlier.

Very eager to see the actual production figures and the box.

Actually BCS is expected these to arrive in stock late October.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I assume #7 is Octopussy. If not, we have a problem. :)

I also hate Moonraker for various reasons... the main one being that it was the movie that truly made Bond a spoof and a joke more than an action/adventure. It had begun with hints as early as DAF... and certainly TSWLM had plenty of Jaws laughs... but Moonraker, perhaps a Bond I was looking forward to more than any other, really took a nose dive right from the opening sequence. Nearly every sequence was played for laughs or ended in a punch line...or both.

That said, Octopussy is even worse. Bond as a clown and in a Monkey suit simply says it all.

Egad! Actually AVTAK is my easy #7 (and I still get some enjoyment out of it). I actually like Octopussy and Moonraker! Was 11 when Moonraker hit theatres in '79. Looking at it objectively I can see why it's generally disliked but it always has that fun nostalgia for me :) As for Octopussy, I just like it and I stand by that dammit! So I guess we have a problem LOL

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

:slap Nooooooo..... but Octopussy is universally derided as the worst Bond ever. At least AVTAK has Walken having a ball as the villain.

Oh well... I cannot argue with an 11 year old's nostalgia.

It also has a Roger Moore who looks way too old to be shaking or stirring! And a really vanilla Bond girl.

And for the record Die Another Day is my choice for the crappiest Bond of them all.

Agreed, but Moore was too old after Moonraker... but that's a whole other issue.

DAD is truly terrible. I almost forgive it because its not even Bond to me. I like the albino Asian with diamonds in his face though -- now that's a wacky henchman. :lol I would have a hard time choosing between Octopussy, Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies and Quantum of Solace as worst Bond. Half of Brosnan's movies were real stinkers.

:duff

I cannot hate you because you have chosen CE3K as your avatar namesake so you must be alright. :D

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

For me none of the Brosnans have any sort of Bond feel to them. I really lost interest in the franchise during that period.

And well, yeah, CE3K is probably in my top 3 films of all time! I always wanted to be Roy when I was kid. Kinda still do :)

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I think Brosnan was very sense of Bond.Elegant and charming , handsome for ladies, ironical. After Connerie's iconic performance most close to Bond haracter. Also Dalton was "Bondish" , but in my imagination Bonds look was very Brosnan like.Maybe you're right then stories in those movies was not strongest part, but it wasn't Brosnan's fault.

Tomorrow Never Dies? Whaaaaaaaat? I know it's got a bland villain but it's full of great action, that hilarious German assassin, huge stakes, Goldfinger style caper (make something bad happen to increase your own worth) and the last great Bond baddie base, that stealth boat. Plus Brosnan was exactly the right age and looked great.

DAD to me is half a great Bond film - the half that ends when Bond reaches iceland. Even then the only thing that puts it beyond the pale is CGI Bond windsurfing over a melting glacier. Cut that bit out and the rest would be decent - over the top, but in a Sixties way.

Spectre was almost a great Bond film - the earlier draft had Blofeld with Mr White in the French Foreign Legion; he tells a story of how they were lost in the desert and Blofeld killed all their buddies, cut them up for meat, then kept Mr White alive so he could help him carry it. Also, Blofeld didn't know his real name - right at the end Bond tells Oberhauser he was adopted, and his real name is Blofeld.

I totally agree. He wasn't my Bond. Honestly, as much as I was an advocate for Dalton way before he was chosen, his films do nothing for me either.

Roy rocks! I would have so gone into that spaceship too.

I'm quite certain you must have been at an age where Brosnan worked for you. By the time he came along I had been thru Connery (the Master) and Moore (the Comedian) and Dalton (the Forgotten)... and Brosnan seemed way too skinny to throw a punch and that big pompadour hair drove me nuts. Despite dialogue, he didn't seem particularly charming nor sarcastic nor dangerous. I think that's why Craig works -- he's frickin' dangerous if nothing else.

And the invisible car, and annoying Halle Berry, and Madonna. There's a lot to dislike there :)

I think Brosnan was trying to be too much of a hybrid of Connery and Moore. I just kept seeing Remington Steele

Dalton was okay but never really got there. Maybe if he had had more time.

Love the Craigs too. Though QoS is not awesome.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

And props to one time Bond George Lazenby who was in one of the best 007 films of all!

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

:goodpost: my favorite Bond and Bond movie.

Met him briefly some years ago at a little signing event here in Toronto that also featured Maud Adams and Lana Wood. Anyway, when I got to his table he wasn't there. His assistant told me he went downstairs to get a coffee. I said "In what world does James Bond get his own coffee?" I still can't imagine GL lined up at Tim Hortons!

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I used to write off OHMSS when I was younger but over time I have come to appreciate how good it really is. Also, now that there are more Bonds to choose from, George doesn't seem quite so bad as he once did when he was the third wheel.

OHMSS Is really great movie.

Its pretty much standard 007 stuff for most of it. The fact that the ending is a sad ending makes it kind of unique in the Bond franchise. Every Bond film Is usually pretty formulaic. Bond kills bad guy, Bond gets girl, OHMSS is Bond doesn't quite kill bad guy and his girl/wife gets killed.
Oh and I've always liked John Barry's reworking of Monty Norman's Bond theme for this one.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

OHMSS is very 1969. Does have a great score though. And one of the best posters.

So jumping back to the LALD figures from Big Chief for a moment... is anyone getting them all?

I'm definitely getting Roger. And I will likely get Solitaire. Not feeling Baron Samedi and his night club attire. Would be my first non-purchase for Big Chief's Bond line-up.

What are you guys thinking?
