Really hope that sideshow will do a modern Storm PF to go along with panther. ;)

So is this textured costume some type of body armor he now sports? Does he really wear a cape that big these days? Kirby created him with a much smaller cape.

Gawd, I am so disappoionted in this piece. I'm down with the pose and the base but geez, who the hell made the decision to go with the textured costume and bling??

It was requested by Marvel. You should call their CS and tell them you only want Kirby designed pieces.

It doesn't surprise me Marvel wanted this if that is really what happened. And I didn't say I only wanted Kirby designed pieces there, Cleaner. I wanted the classic look which is the way a bunch of artists (Buscema, Romita, Heck, etc.) drew him. You need to lay off the stupid pills.

Well for whatever reason Marvel are insisting on more modern interpretation on some of their characters. I guess they feel Bowen has the classic look sorted.

This is actually a really nice looking statue. Very intriguing and detailed. It is actually just a different version or artistic interpretation of the character. It really is a masterpiece of a sculpt. If you get past your initial knee jerk reaction about this not being the version of Black Panther that you prefer, and why in the hell didn't SS make the one you were really wanting most, I think you will see that. It really is an awesome piece. Like others said, Bowen has the classic look nailed down, so why not make one that is different, and since this one is larger than Bowen, why not do one that has more detail, since a larger one can show more detail better? Do you REALLY want multiple statues of a character that look like exactly the same rendition of the character, or would you instead want different versions, to make a more interesting display?
I would like to have this, but I am running out of space, and I need to save space for the characters I really like. Plus, it looks like I might not be able to afford it this year. If I had 3 times the space I have, then I would buy this, because as an art piece, it is really a masterpiece.

PREACH! True story!

stay with Bowen if you want ONLY Classic.

One possible explanation for the declining demand for the "classic look" of some characters is that the faction of fanbase which generally campaigns for those earlier renditions are getting older, already have their choice pieces, or no longer collect. We're seeing more modern pieces being done now likely because the next generation of comic collectors (from the 80s and 90s, as opposed to the 60s and 70s) now appear to make up a greater proportion of the spending fan base. In other words, it's their turn.
