Can be mistaken as a Mexican beer commercial shot at the beach.
Don't be frivolous now; it could be a Tequila commercial as well... The only thing missing is Johnny Depp in Hunter S. Thompson mode.

Joking aside though, I like that it has some vibrant colouring and feels about 50% less fake than most MCU flicks. I actually want to watch this. When it hits BR sure, but still. I don't think I'll ever watch L&T beyond the Crowe & Bale scenes for example.

I see that Namor likes cookies and cream that’s character building lol
He's slurping up those mussels like there's no tomorrow.

Oh no, Namor stole Dom's Coronas! Wakanda is one thing, but how will he take on the Familia?!

-

I still maintain that it's not as bad a casting as Clown Kang though...

Why does every box have the name of the character except for "Marvel's Nakia"? In case we are confused she's not part of Marvel? Why just her?

:dunno

And Namor is such an awful character representation/design....

Can't wait to see him get his *** kicked by the 98 pound "Black Panther".
😁

Anyway I feel cynical. BP1 think was saved by a committed cast. But the CGI was terrible, and the story IMO silly. And the CGI was TERRIBLE.

But, the budget for this one is supposed to be bigger. Eh. I hope the RUMOR is true that Killmonger comes back from the beyond as the new BP.

Most MCU designs are terrible. That being said...

Are they trying to say the Aztec civilization was influenced by Atlanteans with that motif?
According to leaks they're giving them an entirely different name rooted in Aztec mythology and the Atlantis we know is just a story, no connection. So he's basically an OC and shares nothing but the name with Namor. I still think they should've just used White Tiger and left Namor and Atlantis alone for later.

The leaks seem more true by the day, especially the part where there's a flashbacks to the colonization of the Americas. The shot with kid Namor is set in the past, if you look at the clothing of the dead soldiers and the architecture of the building. And the room the soldiers storm in the trailer is similar to the one in the supposedly leaked concept art of you-know-who. Although that could be the scene from the ship that locates the underwater Vibranium. We don't really know how that Mid/Post-Credits scene actually plays out.

😁

None of the leaks who mentioned all the Namor stuff months in advance ever said anything about that, so I wouldn't hold my breath. The current word on the street is that

there's two endings; one where Shuri remains BP and M'Baku is made King, and one that has M'Baku assume both roles. Also, most leakers agree that T'Challa's had a son with Nakia this whole time, so I expect a grown up version of him to show up in the near future due to time shenanigans.

Glad I skipped to the end of the thread.

I was about to ask why the race-swap - he seems more Hawaiian that the pale undersea fella from the 70's ?

Does anyone think that could be because of the issues with character ownership I seem to remember reading a while back? Or is it just another example of Disney-Marvel doing stuff for "representation" again? Or another reason?

Part of it is that Aquaman beat them to the punch with a more 'classical' Atlantis (although DCEU Atlantis looks like an amusement park so it's a moot point) therefore they went for something else and turned them into MesoAmericans. It's not even Atlantis, but a myth from the Aztecs. Plato's Atlantis isn't a thing in the MCU. But I assume "representation" played a role too. Everyone gets to have their fictional ethnostate these days, meanwhile ****** can't even get to keep his myths proper. It is what it is I suppose.

I'll say it again; it could've been cool as a spin on White Tiger, but here it feels just lazy. It's literally an OC with a few superficial similarities to the character it's supposedly translating from page to screen. And the worst part is that the actor's a goober. He's short, he's pudgy, he's certainly not handsome. Couldn't they find a ~30 YO handsome Native American? I clown on MCU Kang every chance I get, but at least the guy's 6'0" and he's got the frame and muscles. Namor's supposed to be hot and the guy they got is average, at best. I just don't get it.

Your posts never fail to deliver the goods I love and appreciate your eye for casting lol

Thanks - that makes sense - I'd forgotten (well - TRIED to forget) that Aquaman farce.

Before the trailer was released, my Son & I were chatting about what they might do - and I'd mentioned the fella they got would have to be drop-dead-gorgeous. We'll file that under "not the one".

Being a fan of the original 70's Defenders, it's just occurred to me that Namor is the 2nd member they decided to "go a different way" with (they did it with Valkyrie too).

Recent casting has left a lot to be desired, that's for sure. Even good enough choices like Crowe for Zeus have been a farce. I just don't know what they're thinking. I'm hoping they saw the reception to P4 and they'll try and correct course for Phases 5 & 6. But I'm still mad actors like Christian Bale and Jude Law were wasted and we now have these uncharismatic, homely Z-Listers playing central roles.

He’s a mutant alright lol
He's actually going to be a mutant. In the trailer's birthing scene the ankle wings are there and the two women are looking at them curiously, so I guess they've started seeding mutants already.

In case we get her confused with this guy, also called Nakia :D

I’m going into this open minded with a clean slate but I honestly don’t see anything entertaining me more than TGM this year or even anything beating my # 2.

As it stands for 2022:

1. TGM
2. TBM
3. Thor 4

Maybe BP2 could push Thor 4 out not really a hard thing to do lol
I’m a bit over acronyms or maybe it’s just that I haven’t had any caffeine for several days but I have no idea what those films are (except for TLAT).
