It's acrylic paint that's been heavily diluted. I'm sure if I went a little thicker with the paint, I wouldn't have needed to add so many coats. I did about 5-6 coats.

That was my intention too. I'll try on a piece of fabric first and if it's not too stiff when dry, I'll go that way.

Thinking I might just ‘laminate’ the coat with a thin layer of clear acrylic medium. It will darken the color some and get that laminated look.
