First off sorry if this is the wrong spot to post this.

Anyways I recently bought a PS3 game used and it looked fine in the store. However upon getting home I found that it has a scratch on the label side and when I put it up to a light I can see through it. Is this disc bound to have problems? I played the game some and there were no problems when playing it but I did not play the entire game. Can a scratch like this affect it. The data part of the disc seems fine. I have a couple of days to exchange the game but if the label scratch shouldn't affect it I would prefer to keep it.

Don't worry, scratch on the label side doesn't effect anything, it's the other side you need to worry about, just like regular CDs.

Really? Because I read somewhere before that a label scratch on dvds and cds pretty much meant the disc was gone. I just wasn't sure it applied to blu ray discs because they may work different. The reason why I heard a label side scratch was fatal is because when the laser goes to read the disc there instead of reflecting off it would go through the disc and not be able to read any data there.

in seriousness, maybe writing on the label side with permanent marker would block the light? or spray paint.

actually Im pretty sure the label side is the side with all the information on it and is applied to a clear disc.
Most of the thickness of the disc on the bottom is nothing more than clear plastic. THats why you can buff a scratch out without harming the playability.

So my guess is your disc is toast ... :monkey1

If you're not sure, I'd take it back. They are SUPPOSED to check them out before selling them, but I doubt they do anything more than inspect them and see if they boot right.

That is what i was thinking. Well instead of risking keeping a game that is no good I just took it back. I was actually able to exchange it for a game they just got in that I wanted more :chew
