So Corgi has the master toy & collectibles license for Bond, including "action figures". I wonder what this means for Sideshow?

Corgi Signs 007 Until 2010
22nd August 2007

Corgi International Limited today announced that it has entered into a Master Toy & Collectible Replica agreement with EON Productions. The agreement for the James Bond classic movie archive runs through 2010 and includes the forthcoming 22nd James Bond movie due for release in 2008 and subsequent movies released during the course of the term.

This worldwide agreement will allow Corgi International to release both mass market product ranges as well as core collectibles on innovative product lines that include, Action Figures, Vehicles, Electronic Roleplay, Die Cast, High Specification Remote Control released under the Popco brand and High end Replicas released under the world renowned Master Replicas branding, amongst other items in varying scales and formats.

Corgi International CEO Michael Cookson commented, "Corgi has had a long association with the James Bond license, and as a licensee for over 40 years on Die Cast, we truly believe that we have reached an agreement where we can use our expertise in both the mass and collectibles markets to release products to a fan base that is both core and aspirational, something that most people believe James Bond to be. Our product range will commence before the movie release in 2008 with classic movie product and replicas and continue with some strong and innovative mass market lines, and we are proud to continue our association with such a franchise."

Keith Snelgrove, SVP Global Business Strategy for EON Productions, also commented "We pride ourselves in the long-standing business relationships we have with many of our James Bond franchise partners. Corgi has been with us since the beginning, and we are excited to see the new range of both toys and prop replicas that Corgi International will bring to market in conjunction with our next film and beyond."

Thanks DD. Legacy figs may have been the swan song for SSC. Maybe we should post this in the James Bond thread too...

possible but the only action figures brought in through Corgi were MediCom imports. As far as the Master Replicas brand goes they haven't let on that they are in the process of creating their own figures and Corgi or Cards Inc doesn't handle that realm either....Maybe Medi is going for Bond as well and Corgi is importing them?

I think at one time Corgi had some James Bond figures or something. I recall the original M (Bernard Lee wasn't it?) and Miss Moneypenny. I think they were die cast though, which would eliminate the term action figure to me. I guess its really anybody's guess. The medi import is a good suggestion. Personally I love what Sideshow did with the Bond figures, but they've been few and far between and some of the latest offerings have been a bit lack luster. This license in the hands of another company more able to make the figures is probably a good thing, but Sideshow set the benchmark high and I have a hard time seeing another company reaching it.

Edit: I like the idea of the replicas. I'd love to have a golden gun replica that could be taken apart and put together...

I don't think they said they were, I think it was just that one picture that popped up that we all think was a sideshow sculpt and Daniel Craig didn't like it.

Seemed like the line was in its death throws anyway... the legacy collection seemed kinda odd considering there were still important characters unmade.

Life support, braindead, sleeping... all the same :lol

And they still haven't made a Medieval F'n Krugan!?!

I thought they confirmed it. Then they said they had to go back and resculpt it.

Action figures. I take that to mean plastic, possibly articulated, small scale figures. I don't think this announcement will affect Sideshow much, if at all.

Maybe Corgi are going to redo diecast cars, this time for the collector. Detailed engine bays and interiors, and the like. Can't think what else it could be really.

I miss anything in the podcast because I can never get it to play on my computer anymore. I guess it was scrapped all together, which really sucks.

Years before, the way licensing worked made me think of iron-clad exclusivity between the property owner and the toy company, but seeing how DC for example allows action figures to be made by its own subsidiary as well as Mattel and even the likes of Monogram, etc. if you count figurines as well.

With Bond, it's interesting to see how licenses for diecast vehicles were granted to Corgi, Minichamps, Ertl and others, with several of these during the same time. I wonder if geographic distribution rights also play into this.

It could be that the "master" license allows pre-existing licenses too. So SSC could be fine and we'll get that Craig eventually.

I just thought it interesting that it mentioned action figures in the announcement.

At first I got the feeling that the press release meant bye to Bond, but I reread the press release at Toy News and interpreted it differently:

Read Collectible Replica, to me that sounds like they have the license to make 1:1 replicas of Bond Gadgets and possibly scale cars, not Collectible action figures or Dolls.

At least, that's what I hope it means.

It says action figures in the list of what they'll be doing. I think it will be 6"-7". People have been wanting something like that for a long time. I hope they turn out great.

I think the action figures mentioned are apart of the Master Toy license, not necessarily collectibles. I should've said collectible 1:6 scale figures.
I'd love some 6"-7" figures, hopefully they'll turnout well if they do make them.

Good Ridance !!!! I was not a fan...:lol

Seriously my favorite Bond figure by Sideshow was Jaws...Man, that Sideshow body was giant...he looked terrific...
