Disney might've gotten wind that it looks like Goliath and sent their lawyers after them!
Actually there are 2 characters from Marvel named Gargoyle one looks likek DC's comics Demon and the other is a little guy with a large head. Neither of these guys looks Bowen's sculpt. When I first saw Bowen's sculpt I thought, did Randy get permission from Disney to do this? But I see that Randy's is too close to theirs. There is a Marvel character called Gargoyle bowen has a Marvel license, so I assumed this statue was based on that character.
If this is a bootleg of one of the Disney Gargoyle characters - then I stand corrected.
From the depths of the famed sculptors imagination, comes an original design: Randy Bowen's: Gargoyle! The fully painted, limited edition sculpture stands over 23" tall overall!
(This is sculpture design #1 in a series of original designs based on classic icons of fantasy myth, and mayhem! Quantities will be even more limited than typical Bowen designs releases.)
This was an issue before and Bowen had put a hold on it in the past due to problems with Disney. Fans on statue forum wanted him to revisit the possibility of releasing the statue and it appeared that Bowen had resolved the licensing issue with Disney, but probably not. The sculpt is already finished so no further work necessary. I don't think marvel has any say in what Bowen does outside of their characters.
actually they do...they wanted randy to concentrate on his marvel work..thats one reason why the odin is going to be released as a marvel piece.
Has this changed then? Because Randy told me (personally) and stressed that Odin was NOT a Marvel piece.
it was moved to the sculpture side...so I assumed from reading on the SF that it was a marvel piece. Let me see if I saved the email that Bowen sent to all of its Direct Retailers (i am one) about the gargoyle and see if it says anything
i guess I am bustedjoe? assumed?
