You know there will be a "monster" that parallels the fears and paranoia of 'school shootings'...

They slightly touched on a school shooting scenario in the original show actually with the character of Jonathan who would later go on to be one of the 3 bad guy nerds in season 6.

What I can totally see them doing in the new show is a transitioning Slayer.

Buffy the Vampire Theyer.

(Don't panic, it's just an episode where everyone in Sunnydale is magically afflicted with a lisp).

So….. you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me.

Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential “Buffy” revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as I’ve always done, I told Gail that I just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again. We’d always been aligned on that, but this time I heard something different in her voice. I eventually agreed to go (mainly just to meet Chloé) and our twenty minute coffee quickly turned into a four hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us.

While I didn’t agree to anything at that meeting, I did shock myself by agreeing to continue the conversation. These conversations did, in fact, continue over the next few years and eventually we added the incredible Nora and Lilla Zuckerman to our little tribe until ultimately, one day, we landed on an idea.

I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit “Buffy” and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.

I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love “Buffy” as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.

The original show already did that.
Not really shocking if they did a similar storyline again, last I checked its still a problem.

I hope Gellar is right in that they found a great new idea, because the only way I can see this working is if they approach it in a fresh and different way, and don't just copy the same formula. Maybe make it more grounded with fewer quips and scarier monsters who don't have names like "Doug".

My excitement for this has dropped. I know it isn't called Dawn the Vampire Slayer but now that Dawn will have to be written out in an assumed off-screen death that's probably going to be a depressing atmosphere for the series to place us in right from the off. I doubt they'd recast the character and I doubt many would want that anyway. So I expect Dawn will be dead. And that's horrible. I wonder if SMG even still wants to do this now.

Considering Dawn and her memories were created, they might do something that reverses that. Agree that I don't want them to re-cast the role but at the same time, I doubt they can the series altogether... Tough spot for sure :(

I'm gutted to be honest. To a surprising degree. It's not like I've been closely following her career or anything. Buffy is the only thing she's done that I've seen.

Last time I was down about a famous person's death was probably Bill Paxton. Before that Carrie Fisher.
