I was wondering if anyone can give me advise on building a 1/4 scale faux stone wall from foam. What kind of foam should I use (preferrable something I can pick up a at a hardware store). I saw some people making a stone wall out of what appeared to be insulating foam, sculpting stone indents into the foam and then painting it to give a faux stone appearance. This is what I am interested in doing. Any advise on what material to use would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did a wall years ago with just regular styrofoam boards from a craft store and this stuff. It looked pretty sweet.

Although you can't get it at hardware stores, balsa foam has a nice consistency like stone. I used floral foam from a Michaels' that was going out of business, and mixed a thin water/carpenters' glue solution, and painted it over the foam, then spread a thin coat of sand over it for the statue face and surrounding stone structure, and was pretty happy with the results.
