The RD in the signature is standing straight up and has the foot wheels. The Medicom prototype is not showing the height adjustment for the wheels and is not standing straight up. I don't think those two things will make up 100% of the height disparity, but I bet it makes up a lot of it.

Anyway...enough for me to dig on them both.

I have the TOTGD C-3PO as well. But I would never display it with my Sideshow figures.

Here is a photo showing the same pose and how off Medicom's R2-D2 scale is:

Wait, DO we know this for certain? From the question and answer from Sideshow quoted earlier (and below) it seems like they aren't pursuing R2 and 3P0:

For me, these aren't the droids I'm looking for. Well, 3PO looks ok, but as I've said in the other thread on these Medicom figures, unless they make R2 the Monster Truck edition he's way too short.

I'm pretty sure that in an even more recent version of Ask SS they did in fact say they were working on them... Ah, maybe I just misinterpreted this:

I think you guys should do Amanaman in the Premium Format scale, and why haven’t we seen any droids yet? I mean, come on now, droids are part of Star Wars too! Are there any plans on doing EV-9D9 or -8D8? Also is there any plans on a 12″ Grievous since he’s in Clone Wars? Your PF of him was the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Amanaman is a great design, and certainly deserves representation somewhere in the Sideshow line. Yes, droids are going to see a lot of love soon enough, starting with Threepio and Artoo. And yes, Grievous is looking more and more like a reality for 12-inch - stay tuned!

As far as I know Sideshow has said that they're doing the droids in PF form first, with 1/6 versions to come eventually but I don't expect them until 2011 at least.

I"Yes, droids are going to see a lot of love soon enough, starting with Threepio and Artoo. And yes, Grievous is looking more and more like a reality for 12-inch - stay tuned!"

Perhaps they were referring to Medicom's versions, or just the premium format scale?

Like icruise said, the PFs initially, but the 1/6 should follow... and no, I don't think they were referring to the Medi ones.

But is there any word from Sideshow themselves that would prove that? Not arguing here, just want to know where the idea came from that Sideshow is doing 1/6th droids. Hopefully I missed an announcement somewhere. :)
