That is the perfect pose and I'd want them on the same base. I can't imagine them yearning for each other across the unbreachable chasm of seperate bases.

By the by - there's no need to quote pictures in the same thread. This has been happening a lot lately...

Yes, a PF that combined the droids on the same base would be my favorite one of announced pieces so far. I hope that they make them metal, and don't go for the fully sculpted route, ala Ironman.

I'm sure that 2 fully metal droids would be extremely expensive, but I still think that many people would buy them. If the Predator maquette can sell 1,000 units at its price, then surely 2 of the most popular and recognizable characters from Star Wars can also.

Bring 'em on!

It's about time for another Star Wars PF announcement anyway. ;)

I wouldn't really want both in all metal as it would be cost prohibitive for me.
Maybe R2's dome could be metal, but if they were both all metal, it wouldn't only be expensive to buy, but also expensive to ship due to the weight - and shipping to Australia is not cheap with shipping much of the time costing as much, if not more than the piece!

I still would like this statue/s to happen though!

Scriff

I agree scriff. No need to make them all metal. If all metal is what you're looking for, just make or buy a 1:1 version of the duo. Let's keep these in the "mixed media" format. :)

They have done an excellent job of simulating metal on Ironman and I wouldn't mind if C-3PO was done in the same way. R2's dome may need to be metal, but it could also probably be simulated in poly.

It's an interesting debate, and it will surely be divisive no matter what they come up with.

I can see it now..."It's too expensive" or "It doesn't have enough real metal." ;)

I'm fairly confident that it will turn out excellent.

The Droids must be made, R2-D2 is the real hero of all the Star Wars Movies, if I'm correct I think Lucas mentions this in an interview. This is why the droids must be made.

Interesting. I hadn't considered them together, but it makes a lot of sense. They do definitely belong together.

I wonder if the desire to allow independent purchases will keep them apart. The duo could be a bit steep together.

If I got to pick, I would suggest independent boxing, with poses selected to mesh together when placed on the optional (or included with purchase of both as a set?) double sized base.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that with the 3PO and R2 its a both or nothing type deal, for the vast majority if not everyone. If that's the case then everybody will buy one of each and put them together and those who can't afford each together wouldn't be able to afford them seperately. Plus getting the additional base would increase cost, and I'm not certain but I suspect that shipping the two in independent boxes would cost more than shipping them in one box, event though the one would be heavier.

As to the question of polystone or actual metal I think that they will look just fine with polystone, maybe a bit of metal for R2's dome. However, I think it would be cool if possible for sideshow to do one of each with the all metal one being ultra limited shall we say 50? :naughty

Great idea! And they could paint him whatever color he was in Episode II. What was that... gray?

What you say makes perfectly sense Agent! R2 and 3PO together on one base, lovely! Side effect: if a collector really wanted them separately, he would have to buy the Attakus versions. And, since both of 'em are sold out for years, that won't be easy (read: cheap).
