Vancouver!!! A GREAT place to be. Wonderful area ... didn't get to go there but once during all the years I spent in the Pacific NW and I regret that. Also one of the places vying for the credit of coming up with the phrase "skid row" (the other being Seattle), which has now entered our lexicon to mean very negative things/places. You'll have your work cut out for you. In between times (do missionaries get even a little time off every once in a while?), you can enjoy the beautiful sights and atmosphere of the area.

I'm an atheist, but I respect the fact that you're willing to totally devote two years of your life to your beliefs.

Congrats!

Well, I do not have to sell anything of mine to do this. All I have to do, is put my life on hold pretty much for two years and go serve my fellow man. It will mean I won't be doing anything like I would be here such as watch TV, watch movies, collect, hang out with friends, dating, etc. So none of that. But that is okay, because I can put all that on hold and go serve my Lord, my God. And to be perfectly honest, there is nothing I would rather do at this point in my life.

And this being about religion, I hope nobody is offended by anything I may say.

twistedfreak, Be safe & God Bless You! Good Luck with your mission! Please let me know how you are from time to time. I would like to also take the time to thank all of our troops everywhere!!!!! You are all the best!!!! :rock

Um Batty I have to disagree. If you are an atheist I would imagine you couldn't disagree more. Respect is something that you give when you believe in something. So you can't respect something you don't believe in. That is like saying you respect Osama. You don't want him to do wrong but you respect him sort of thing. Personally I think it's foolish! Spend the time with your family. You never know what may happen. I don't mean to offend on this topic. This is coming from experience. :monkey2

I must though Twisted wish you well on your journey. My opinions do not matter on your path. I hope you are well and check in with us freaks often. Good Luck!

I have to disagree. Just because he does not believe in god does not mean he can't believe in someone else finding purpose and meaning in their life. Think about it. :)

Yes I would agree and on carefull review will even say sorry. I know this is a touchy subject anyways. I think I get what Batty means. He doesn't agree but can respect the devotion. I still don't understand how you can respect something if you don't believe in it. Sorry.

Good to hear, Tyler! If it's what you really want to do, I wish you well and hope that when you get back that it's done good things for your life. Either way, you are good people and I know you'll be ok out there.

I agree, it is a very touchy subject so I will tread lightly. I think what Batty means is even though he does not share the same (religious) beliefs, he can respect someone following their heart and persuing their dream. For example I dislike sports but if you said I am going to basketball camp so that I can learn to play professionally then I would say, I respect your desire and your ambition to become a great pro basketball player even though I can't stand sports. :)

The action of following through is respectable and commendable in this situation.

Just in case some of you think I am leaving like now, that is not the case. I still got a bit of time. I will be reporting to the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah on Wednesday September 26, 2007. So, I am still here for a few months. And I will stay in touch via email as best I can while I am on my mission. I know a few guys here have told me that they wish to keep in contact with me when I am gone. And I will do that, as much as I am able to. And as for that South Park and Orgazmo stuff, it just makes fun of us pretty much. lol Most of it is just silly nonsense. :lol

And thanks guys for the support/encouragement! :D

That's exactly what I mean. Thank you.

And just to be clear - I don't support or respect religious based terrorism.

I served a mission in New York City and got back just two years ago. Tyler, it's the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.

I had the most wonderful time of my life helping people, getting to know them, and being of service. Taking time out to forget about myself and help other people instead made me happier than I thought I possibly could be. Why waste time always doing stuff for me when I could be out helping other people? Then both they and I are happy. And now that I'm back, my life has direction and focus, and I feel good about myself every day. I don't have those nights when I sit wondering what I'm doing with myself, and I know that I've made friends that will be close to me for years to come.

It's not just about religion, though that is indeed the point of it. It's about giving up things I thought were important (my time, my space, my money) for things that really are important (family, friends, faith). I think that's what helps me be so cheerful all the time. Why would I ever get angry of upset when I'm so happy with who I am? The mission really helps with that. Yeah you give up stuff--but you get a lot more in return.

Congratulations, Tyler. Nothing would have made me happier in those two years; it was the best choice I've ever made so far. You'll be so grateful you did!

I'm glad you cleared that up. I was about to contact my friends at Homland Security about you. :D

It is hard for some true believers to understand that atheists aren't godless heathens. Okay, wait, maybe we are, but that godless heathens can be real swell folk!

Congratulations Tyler! Glad to hear you'll be around for awhile longer. I wish you the best on your journey!

Good luck to you for the 2 years TF.

Hope that the time just flies by and you'll be back soon all well and good!
