maybe but if thats the case why wasn't he credited for salvation?

He could be lending his talent to aspects not related to directing. He might be producing or writing a general script or screenplay.

Either way, it'll probably be McG in the director's chair.

He wanted to do T4..but something fell through with the studio. I assume it's still like that in limbo.

IMDB has gotten things wrong in the past...

This is how shocked I am that Cameron's name is attached to anything of the new Terminator franchise. When I read Cameron connected I thought of this first:

I would be very surprised if Jim Cameron was seriously attached to the next installment in any real prominent role.

Exactly, meaning Cameron rumored to be coming back into the franchise has already been kicked around on websites and message boards for 5 years now...

How does it hold an merit? It's all speculation and rumor.

I'm sure it is all rumor and speculation ................... I just can't see Cameron "risking" anything after his big ^^^^ "Titanic" status. I don't mean that in a negative way, its just that once they hit a new plateau they tend to not risk their reputation.

At the Aliens screening last night there were a few terminator related questions.

It seems as though he's way passed it. He mentioned being interested in 3 for a little bit but after Titanic really didn't think he wanted to go back there. I guess the producers then took the franchise and moved ahead with it, creating a bit of bad blood.

He didn't mention opinion on 3 just that he told arnold to do it and ask for the most money an actor has ever gotten for a role. He did seem to be unimpressed with 4.

He summed the franchise up as saying that though terminator 1 really didn't make him much money it did give him a career. T2 gave him a fortune and concluded the story that he was interested in telling. It's now out of his hands and he is ok with that.

I'd rather see him come up with bigger and better things, his Avatar seems awesome...

If a director lingers too long in a franchise it becomes stale, dry, and they become tired and beat down by that franchise. How many films can one director make before he's sick of it and moves on?

It seems he feels the same way and is not interested anymore.

Anyone actually thinking we are still getting a T5 after the lukewarm reception to Salvation?

Inevitable. If they're going to continue putting out more Alien movies even after the downhill decline of the previous flicks after Aliens, then yes, there will be a T5 and a T6, and so on.

Yes they will but the next one won't have an actor that gets busted on tape having a melt down. T4 was a very good film, it bombed because of the pathetic anti-Bale critics that trashed the movie based on that one thing.

That recording ruined T4 imo. Well there was that and the fact that Bales performance wasn't all that strong. Bales performance in TDK was similar imo but he wasn't mocked and bashed by critics now was he.

Pfff. No way. T4 is by no means a "good" film. There a lot of factors that could have caused T4's poor box office showing. I'm not saying Bale's tantrum didn't attribute to that, but he's not going anywhere. They established a character using Bale and his name now holds enough cache to draw in movie-goers. He's signed on for 3 Terminator movies, I'm sure he's staying.

How are you connecting the critical reception of Bale's performance in TDK to the critical reception of T4? His performance in TDK fit the character (well, Bruce Wayne, at least), but was overshadowed by Ledger's.

IMO it was amazingly similar but in T4 there were a few scenes where the acting was horrid, like the director should have stopped him and said "K lets do that one again" Critics played a part in flopping this film, no doubt. Thats my opinion so please don't argue me on it. :D

lukewarm reception? It's the number one movie in canada right now yet in the u.s. night at the museum 2 beat it.... which is pretty bad.

I love Salvation! I'm surprised that Wolverine did better than this movie.. that damn thing was leaked and horrible.

I'm sorry but the real problem was that McG simply cannot direct. I have never seen a big budget film with more close ups and tight medium shots than this in my life. He has no clue how to create good composition or set up interesting shots.

That and the script was fairly week and not helped by some pretty miserable acting.

Otherwise it was a fun flick
