Sorry bro. Just experienced a close friend reach an all-time low with their bi polar since I have known them. Just very sensitive on the issue and burned out because of it.

Sorry to hear that Eli.

Let me know when you are feeling better and I can treat you like poo again :peace

Until then, hope you get the help you are looking for.

What type of Bi-polar illness do they have? I recall their being two types. On both ends of the spectrum wether they are too "flighty" or too depressed they are at risk for suicide.

Damn I wish I still had my Mental Health book from last semester.

That much I do not know. I hope it never gets like that.

Well Eli dunno what's going on but it seems pretty serious.

Hope things work out brotha.

And to my bi-polar peeps....

Life doesn't promise us anything, except a chance. We have a chance to live any way we like. No matter how we choose to live, we'll have pain and we'll have joy. And we can learn from both!"

Eli26---Sorry to read about the situation, I can ask my wife if she has info -she is a RN and has done research on topic because of her Mom's condition.
Just keep being a friend and assist when you can.

Thanks for those who have posted their stories, information and their prayers.

btw To those who PMed me, I'll never let anyone know who you are.. but never be ashamed of what you have. It's part of who you are. If people can't accept that, then that is their problem.

I used to work at a psych. clinic, and saw this a lot. There were some cases that were extreme instances of mental instability, and these people did need meds to get the right neurotransmitters firing, or they would have been unable to function in society. I mean, extreme cases of mania constantly cleaning things, not shutting up, pacing around, followed by extreme depression where they would sit by themselves and contemplate suicide.

On the other hand, there were a lot of people who, I feel, just didn't have the right balance of things in their life--exercise, social contact, hobbies and diversions--who experienced a lesser, less terminal form of "bipolar" disorder. Of course, the doctors put these people on meds, too, but I think the emotional swings were the body's way of telling them to change their behavior more than anything (doctors couldn't be bothered with actually trying behavioral therapy  ).

One constant across these, and almost all patients we saw, however, was that they would find a drug that worked, feel better, stop taking the drugs, re-experience the problem that sent them to us to begin with, and have to get put back on drugs. There was a revolving door, and quite honestly, the lack of real effort by those patients turned me away from psychology altogether (at the time, I wanted to get my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology).

Don't know if this is any use at all to you, Eli26, but that's my experience with it. Good luck with helping your friend out. If it is truly serious, then a medical solution might be best.
