Hi Gang,

We're in the market to buy a new digital camera. Up until now, we've been using the Canon Powershot A550 (7.1 mp). We've been using this camera for a couple of years now to take family pics and videos. Of course, I also use this camera to take lots of pics of statues to share with you guys.

I think it's time for an upgrade. My statue pics, for example, are starting to look lackluster next to whatever cameras some of you guys are using these days to take pics. Unfortunately, there appear to be so many different Canon powershot digital cameras in the 10-12 megapixels range, and the prices seem to be all over the place. I also can't really tell the difference between them. It's to the point where I feel I might be paying more for fancy features that I'll likely never use.

As noted above, my needs are relatively simple. Can anyone make some Canon powershot suggestions? The Canon models seem really easy to find and are relatively cheap too.

Canon makes a great camera. My S330 is finally starting to go, after holding up to heavy abuse and thousands of pictures. I think it's pretty close to 8+ years.

I'm in the market for a new Canon too. Looking to pay $300 or less, preferably less. Need something for SDCC.

I got the Power shot A1000IS a little ways back. Its a 10 megapix. I like it. For the price, I defn feel I got my money's worth, well not mine, but for the person who got me it. I think it was like in the $150 range. The pics in my thread from like page 9 and up, I used this camera. Bear in mind, I have no knowledge of how to get the best out of my camera. I highly recommend it.

My brother bought a Canon Powershot S90 recently and I got to try it out on a few ocassions. I like it so much that if I didn't already have a good camera, the S90 would be mine. It's a bit pricey though (~$300) since it's relatively new and is the top of the line Powershot model I think.

Thanks for the link to your absolute amazingly collection!
Nice stuff!

However, here is where things might get a little confusing for me. While some of the pics you posted look good, there seem to be a number of others which look grainy, blurry, dark, and out of focus. I'm not sure if this is because of the camera. Ultimately, I think I may be looking for something which provides an even sharper image. I may be wrong but I think my present 7.1 mp Canon seems to take as good shots now.

Here are links to three threads I started which featured pics from the canon 7.1 powershot.
While the pictures still came out nice, I'd love a good upgrade.

well I think its prolly me more than the camera. Like I said, I dont know a whole lot about cameras and all there settings and such, so really, i just use one setting for all my pics. Some of the blurryness is prolly from not having a steady hand. :slap

I was looking into getting a Canon Powershot SD780 for about $180.
I was looking for a small point and shoot and still looking around. I actually have a Canon 20D that I usually shoot, but like I said I want a point and shoot to just carry around.
